John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Cole should be getting the 8th inning too unless we score. He needs the innings too. If I was Montoyo, I’d put Waguespack back out there since he’s absolutely eligible to enter the game
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 It tips over to Montoyo looking dumber because he barely pushed back, if at all Gibby would have been all over that s***. God I miss that man.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Question about the new rules. If a pitcher comes in, faces 1 batter and gets the 3rd out of the 7th inning....and then comes out to face the first batter the 8th inning - can he be taken out after facing the first batter of the 8th inning (because he technically finished an inning) - or must he face at least 2 batters in the 8th inning (3 total)? Thanks in advance.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Is Shun Yamaguchi on the lineup card? Ofcourse he’s ready for the 10th inning. Please no.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 I assume nobody on the field knows the exact rule but that's how most umpires would handle the situation. Still seem inexcusable to me to make that pitching change and not see that he's not on your own lineup card in your hand and pinned in your dugout. The only thing a manager is required to give the umpire is the starting lineup and batting order. No potential substitutes need to be listed. I get that just because the majority of us don’t know the rules, that we would decide something based on feelings, but that’s not how sports are played. It’s in the rule book that Waguespack is eligible to enter the game, the ump got it wrong. End of story That doesn’t excuse the lack of attention to detail on Montoyos part as I’m sure these guys truly believe that potential subs should be given, but the fact remains they are not. The second fact that the ump doesn’t know this rule is even more inexcusable than Montoyos oversight

The recall transaction isn't listed anywhere.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Do we know for certain that the Jays didn't mess up when recalling him? The recall transaction isn't listed anywhere. If his recall wasn’t reported to MLB he wouldn’t be allowed to dress for the game. But even if that were the case, there’s no way the ump or opposing manager would know about a transaction not being reported.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Must face 3 batters before getting taken out as far as I know....but I’ll take another look I think since he finished an inning, he could be taken out afterwards at any time.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 This rigid use of the bullpen is going to drive me insane. Romano should not pitch unless they score.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Three-batter minimum Official rule: The starting or any relief pitcher is required to pitch to a minimum of three batters, including the batter then at bat (or any substitute batter), until such batters are put out or reach base, or until the offensive team is put out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness which, in the umpire crew chief’s judgment, incapacitates him from further play as a pitcher. To me, that says a pitcher must face either 3 hitters, or remain in the game at least until the end of the inning.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 If his recall wasn’t reported to MLB he wouldn’t be allowed to dress for the game I can see that mistake being made and no one noticing. It would also be very easy for the person who said it was a lineup card mistake to have gotten it slightly wrong (ie, he wasn't on the card because he wasn't eligible to be dressed).
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 I think since he finished an inning, he could be taken out afterwards at any time. Yeah my understanding of the rule is that after the inning ends, that pitcher can be switched regardless of how many batters they face/faced/will face next inning.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Ok Tellez. That was a nice pick that could have went poorly.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 same, you cant guarantee we need him tomorrow. most are fine with Romano, but if this goes to extras and Shun pitches, I'm going to lose my s***!
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 That Romano slider is nasty Even the bad ones are kinda nasty.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Romano is f***ing nuts, I love it
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 most are fine with Romano, but if this goes to extras and Shun pitches, I'm going to lose my s***! Embrace it
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 That Romano slider is nasty We have Romano for the next 6 years. The next 3 years at league min. That's really a mouth watering thought. This kid is a lights out high leverage reliever.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Nice Romano Freeman can’t handle Romano’s cheese
TheDragon Verified Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 This offense has been extremely humdrum. They made Toussaint look like a young Pedro Martinez
