Crazy to think Vladdy still has a good chance to reach an .800 OPS, .270 Avg, 30HRs and 100 RBIs in an extremely down season. This just shows you how much talent he has. All these numbers considering he's had extremely bad BABIP luck this year. Despite what people say, he is still absolutely a generational talent, not someone we want to trade away. I'd actually look at resigning him now to a long term deal while his stock is low. If he puts up another 2021 type season next year his value will skyrocket. I would be willing to take a gamble this offseason inking him to 6-7 year deal if we could get it at a discount.

People have mentioned that Kendry Morales is comparable to 2023 Vlad. A couple of other guys that are comparable are the "older" versions of Miguel Cabrera and Pujols. All three consistently under-performed their xwOBAs. Sometimes by a lot.

So I would want to fully understand this pattern before signing Vlad long term.

Another weird thing is, despite his xwOBA being high, and ground ball rate not terrible, the number of fly balls he hits 380 feet or more, was almost half of that of 2021. Totally weird. I thought at one point he might just be losing a bit on his fly balls and a lot were caught deep. That's not the case. This year he is just hitting way less deep fly balls.

I'll compare 2021, 22, and 2023 when the season ends to see what the final trend is.

Overall ..yes the ground ball rate doesn't look horrible, but his pull ground ball rate vs pulled flyball rate is next level putrid. That's where the power went

Where's it possible to see the breakdown between pulled ground ball rate and pulled fly ball rate?

Fangraphs splits, sort by season and scroll down.

Is it a coincidence that Vlad recent power surge coincides with a near 60% pull rate in September? and he now has his season fly ball pull rate up to 25% when it was down near 16% at some point in August?

Pulled ground ball rate now down to 55% on the season when it was over 65% not that long ago.

I recall seeing 65% on the ground and 16% in the air to the pull side at some point in August. Seems Vlad has made a change to actively try pulling again

Get him off this f***ing team at once, I don't give two shits how.

I literally hate this motherf***ing moron.

I'd rather see him eating at any of those places over grandma's table.

Still going to stuff his fatass face with uncrustables wherever he's located (my rough estimate is at least 1 uncrustable per hour).

Both the letter grade and the + is very generous.

It would be an F if this was posted in January, when the animosity had dissipated. The D+ was for trolling when everyone was really angry. The quality of said trolling was garbage though.

I wouldn't call it a hate thread. it is a place to discuss Vlad Guerrero Jrs dissapointments with nuance, tact and class. Some points to hit on....

1. Will Vlad Guerrero Jr. continue to track Gary Shefield? So far he has nicely with one big season surrounded by mediocre ones. At the age of 25 or so Shefield really put it together. Stopped chasing all together and put up like 12 years straight of .300 .400 .550 or so hitting.

2. Will Vlad Guerrero Jrs obesity prevent him from putting it together like Gary Shefield did?

3. If 2. happens (Obesity induced early career release) where should he go? Korea? Mexican League? Oakland? Or the Independant Leagues (Windy City, Quebec City, Lake Erie are all options).

But yeah, not exactly the place for weird slams on long time posters. Vlad Guerrero Jr. career trajectory discussions only here.

Sorry for bumping this. You guys will hate me, but the first pitch ground ball out just drove me over the edge... I know not unusual but I got sucked in again by a couple patient at bats in the first series.

Juan Soto is in NY and I live in NY State and just seeing the good vibes and joy he is bringing my Yankee Fan friends is bitter sweet. Always thought Vlad would be right there with him, a Frank Thomas to Jim Thome... but it is time to accept the truth.

2024 projected stats

Juan Soto - .377 .524 .712 12 fWAR Joy and happiness for the Yankee girls and boys

VGJ - .277 .330 .429 0.5 fWAR nothing but sadness here for the Blue Jays faithful

Why do people keep waiting for him to be the guy he was for 3 to 4 months while playing half of his games in minor league ballparks? For the vast majority of his career he has been disappointing relative to his raw talent. He's an okay hitter, he's not the generational talent people keep hoping him to be, probably because he doesn't have the work ethic or desire to get there.

He may be one of those guys that will go elsewhere and suddenly put it all together when he finally matures.

I saw stats on mlb now showing his slugging vs fastballs continues to get really bad. His timing is off on offspeed pitches and is not catching up to fastballs

Yeah.

When I'm watching him hit it truly looks like he's trying to guess along with the pitcher at whats coming instead of just looking for a certain pitch/location, and he's mostly guessing offspeed which makes him late on the fastballs he does get.

He's definitely a bit lost at the plate. It looks like he is trying to:

1. swing less

2. put better swings on hittable pitches

He is doing #1 so far which is I guess a good sign but definitely lost trying to get #2 working.
