hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Just watching his load at the plate is embarrassing. He's lost and just flailing most of the time. Get him outta here! and replace him with who exactly?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 and replace him with who exactly? He's headed for a negative WAR year, and release Bellinger got released after a 1.5 WAR year, Vladdy has a great chance of being negative WAR this year. Admittedly Bellinger did have a negative WAR year 2 years before his release. Special press release announcement. Vladimir Guerrero has failed. We have had to give him his release has he was due 25 million a the arbitration which is to much for -0.5 WAR player. Special announcement: Boston Red Sox sign Vladimir Guerrero JR. 2 years 28 million. Vladdy hits .344 52 154 for Sox for 14 million (numbers which make sense given his age 18,19 and 22 seasons. The release is going to be a hard decision. Risk 25 million for 0 WAR guy? Or risk rival signing a super star cheap. Bellinger release didn't really work out but not complete emparassment (no triple crown or anything).

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 He probably will go on to be a good player but it won't happen here. Article we will see next year. Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Yoshida on historic run Boston Red Sox fans are having one of the most joyful years in baseball history as Vladimir Guerrero JR and Yoshida battle for hitting supremecy. Both hardly ever strike-out and are leading Boston's historic offense to a 110 win season. Guerrero released by Toronto had something to prove. Toronto's number crunchers thought Guerrero was a replacement player after a .255 18 95 season, with -1.1 WAR. However Boston's hitting coach's and team mate Yoshida fixed his swing and the young Guerrero is back on a hall of fame track. Boston recently signed Guerrero to a 12 year 200 million dollar extension, cheap for a triple crown contender, but Guerrero was happy to make a long term commitment. They showed faith in me and now in Boston we have a team that can win multiple world series. The fans are the best in the world and the Joy here is like no other place.

But I mostly just think vladdy is a lazy bum and it's on him I have a lot of Boston Red Sox friends and despite the fact they are still behind us by a couple games, they are having a way, way, more fun and enjoyable season then we are. They love Yoshida, Duran, Verdugo, Devers, Connor Wong, Bello. It brings them so much happiness to see players exceeding expectations. So much Joy watching a hitter like Yoshida. Compared to watching Varsho, Vlad, Kirk,

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Lol One thing i would like to do is try another hitting coach. But I mostly just think vladdy is a lazy bum and it's on him I fully expect that a new hitting coach won't change anything with Vlad. A LOT of pro athletes don't want some 'coach' telling them what to do. Most don't want to hear the truth on why they are failing. And to some extent, I get that - especially if the current hitting coach tells him one thing and the new hitting coach tells him something different (obviously it would help if multiple coaches tell him the same thing). Instead, Vlad will probably listen to what his Uncle - or some other trusted family member tells him over any Blue Jays employee. He'll 'think' that it was his Uncle that got him scouted and "to the majors" and thus he knows best. And because he's Vlad, the Jays will probably give in and fly his uncle in - just to tell Vlad what he wants to hear. A lot of the pro athletes surround themselves with yes men. Now I must admit that I didn't come up with most of this; however, I was speaking with one of the Leaf's technical coaches and that's essentially what he told me. He said there are several Leafs who refuse to even work with him because their ego is too big. But Cousin Bill who knows next to nothing about hockey gets flown in to tell them what they want to hear and make them feel good. I fully expect this extends into baseball and all professional sports. The Jays need to find the right person to deliver the message to Vlad - you're too out of shape - dedicate yourself to the game if you want to be a star - take your walks and stop expanding the zone so much - etc.

On the other hand maybe watching Bo everyday, doing what he does and hitting .320 give the opposite message. Makes me miss the Donaldson, Bautista, EE, middle of the order. Pure professionals.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Bautista and Donaldson were in tremendous shape in the prime of their careers. And Donaldson was a fat chubby young guy. So having that kind of mentor around would have done wonders for Vlad.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 His approach at the plate is pretty bad Swing at a first pitch a foot inside? lol. Yeah. Just insane how much better Soto is. Soto can have -20 defense, and hit .240 and still have 3.5 WAR because of his patience (check last years numbers). Maybe Soto's patience is just genetic, and there is no way Vlad could ever do it. He can't be that dumb right? Throw away 3 WAR because he thinks it fun to swing at bad pitches?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Vlad in 2025 is going to have a MVP caliber year. That's the only thing I'll bank on with him.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Vlad+ for Soto, IÂ’d do it. The last Soto strike out was something I wish Vlad would do more. Go deep into at bats. Take all border line pitches and if you get called out on a questionable pitch oh well. This is actually what Biggio used to do too and the benefits (more walks, more swings at good pitches, less grounder on s***** pitches that you roll over), were way more than the occasional called strike three. I say used to for Biggio, because seems like he got pissed off at his playing time, and decided to be a .200 .260 .360 hitter instead of a .220 .340 .370 hitter.

Laika - swing less pull dat ball. I doubt Laika could be a hitting coach but need a guy like him doing the hitting coach interview.

bluejaysinternNo5 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 It's almost impossible to have any reasonable discourse about Vlad nowadays. Any time you mention his performance all you get is "He's 24" (so are lot's of other players that are much much better), "He's an all star" (not deserved), "He plays gold glove defense at first base!!" (he does not), "If not for Ohtani he would be MVP!!!" (a year he can't repeat now that he can't play in minor league parks anymore), etc etc. He's basically become a mascot for the blue jays the way the media sucks him off. I'd love for him to succeed but I can't say I'll miss him when he's gone. Give me healthy physical specimens and non-nepo babies next time thanks.

Bellinger release didn't really work out but not complete emparassment (no triple crown or anything). The Dodgers could afford to release him because they have the BEST development system in the majors and were confident at replacing him, unlike the Jays. Also not a sure it's a fair comparison They are different players with different swing "styles" Dodgers hitting philosophy was based on (and still is) getting the ball in the up in the air - this philosophy started from the low minors and continued upto to the majors. It has worked wonders with many players - Chris Taylor, Muncy, Turner to name a few. Unfortunately for whatever reason Bellinger wasn't able to adjust once the league figured him out. He has been much better this season. I don't know Jays hitting philosophy, like everything they do it's secretive - as far as I can tell it's not the same as what the Dodgers preach but more of "use the entire field" "go the other way" "up the middle"...etc This might reduce Vlady's power numbers - it will and it has - but at least it will keep his OBP and BA fairly high or at least above average. Is he a beast like we all thought he would be - right now he is not. All is not lost though he's still a special talent. and my question still stands....replace him with who?
BlueBaller Verified Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Indeed and he's actually a worse hitter now than he was as a 20 year old. He should be proud.

Vlad isn't keeping his average and on base percentage high. Juan Soto's on base percentage is 90 points higher. In 2023 he is about a 0 WAR player. That means any random guy could replace him. Could Horwitz put up 0 WAR?? Maybe not. But Maybe. If you need a first basemen as good as 2023 Vlad (who is ranked like 25th or something out of 30), you randomly sign a guy, or you randomly trade middle infielders like Schneider for a minor league 1st basemen. Will Vlad continue to be a 0 WAR player? I don't know. Probably not, but the decision to release him would be based on him not being worth his 24 million or whatever in arbitration, so even if you thought he was 2 WAR it still makes sense to replace him.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Just keep a revolving door of veterans like Belt. They'll out perform Vlad anyway. and how has that worked out for the Padres?
