The Little General Verified Member Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 Gotta chuck Chuck and his gang now. Keep Pete though. Chuck thoroughly outmanaged last night…seems like he forgot about pinch hitter and Goldschmidt on deck. Daycare dugout gotta tone it down..…Teo hitting 0.150 and having a ball!! Time to grow up boys. Firing Chuck and crew might shock the daycare into reality.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 Fire Montoyo promote Schneider. We're a quarter way through the year, and Montoyo is still making multiple terrible decisions a game. Why pinch hit Tapia for Zimmer instead of Jansen. Bring on John Schneider. He's been groomed enough. Already won championships managing the Vancouver Canadians (2011), Dunedin Blue Jays (2017) and NH Fishercats (2018).
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 Well there it is folks. Buck Showalter 2.0 Also, Romano was brought in for a save situation in that Houston game. So Charlie can’t even remember what’s happening with his own team.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 This game was lost IMO when they pulled merryweather after a 7 pitch inning. If you are down a guy or 2 in the pen manage with your brain and not the speadsheet.

EZe Verified Member Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 What's it going to take to can this guy?? I believe this will happen once Vladdy requests a manager change and he will eventually. Just unfortunate to spin our wheels in the meantime. It’s proof of Atkins beta mindset. Won’t make the right decision himself.

I've never understood when it comes to sports where supposed 'fans' get carried away with attacking or going after players, coaches, etc. We all want the team to succeed but when you do this you just come across as a f***ing loser and dickbag. Its a sport not life. And I guarantee you none of them would say it to their faces, love the anonymity of the internet.

Idk why anyone would ever do that. Also death threats are crazy. Its a f***ing sport relax people. We complain about Charlie and i’d be happy if he was fired, but I don’t wish anything bad on the guy. I just think he’s out of his depth in his current role.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 I think I'm jumping off the fire Charlie bandwagon and am firmly back on the extend Charlie train. The dude just knows what levers to pull and when. 7 wins in a row and it feels like we might never lose again.

Huh Pulling Stripling for Phelps after a ground ball single that barely got through almost backfired spectacularly. Strip was f***in cruising. Almost lost that Sunday Angels game because he used Borucki instead of Strip and left him in way too long. Almost broke Romano (or did he break him?)
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 2 game of both Kirk and Jansen being in there back to back and 7 wins might do that to you. Just wait until Jansen plays 3 of the next 6 games and Kirk only plays 4 of them while Tapia plays 5, Biggio 4 and Zimmer 2 and the tune will change. Or maybe we'll win all 6 and it won't matter.

Gotta wonder how many wins were left on the table by not playing Kirk at DH more often. Think back to the games with Heineman catching and Collins DHing, or Collins catching with Kirk on the bench. Frustrating but at least Kirk is hot right now so he’s harder to bench.

Stripling was on 2 days rest and Phelps is about as good a reliever... no one would or should pitch Stripling much farther in that situation. The other game he put Borucki in in the 3rd inning... he had 6 innings to cover and had to do it somehow, Stripling pitched the night before (albeit only 3 pitches) and probably still wasn't going to go much more than 2 innings.

Jansen was hurt for most of that period, Kirk was swinging a pool noodle. Heineman was miraculously mediocre for his few games. And didn't Collins kind of win Toronto a game or two with beeeeg klutch hits?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 I was surprised someone was able to unfurl that banner - look at the banner to the right where Jansen's homer landed https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2022/2022-06/01/a5c925ad-038bbefb-b46e92d4-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4

Heineman was miraculously mediocre for his few games. And didn't Collins kind of win Toronto a game or two with beeeeg klutch hits? Exactly this. Kirk didn't really heat up with the bat until the last two weeks or so. For the first two weeks of May he only produced a 99 WRC+. As Kirk has heated up Jansen has cooled off a bit, so the net effect of having both in the lineup would have been mitigated a bit. Since May 15 Kirk has been on fire with a 225 WRC+, where Jansen has produced a still good but much lower 116 WRC+. Other guys that have found themselves in the lineup, either as a direct result of being DH that day, or because Springer sees a lot of time at DH have recently been performing nicely as well. Springer has produced a 153 WRC+, and the backup outfielders who tend to play when he is DH have done well also, with Tapia having a 127 WRC+ and Zimmer with a 146 WRC+.

Yeah my point is that if Kirk had more at bats earlier he probably gets locked in/heats up sooner. If you disagree that’s fine.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Yeah my point is that if Kirk had more at bats earlier he probably gets locked in/heats up sooner. If you disagree that’s fine. This is kind of a chicken and egg scenario, do you give a player more plate appearances despite not producing very well, or do you start to reward a player with more playing time as a result of producing more at the plate? Kirk only received 62 plate appearances in April but it's kind of hard to make the claim that he deserved more playing time as he produced all of a 71 WRC+. He really wasn't squaring up baseballs with any type of frequency, and the bulk of his value offensively was derived from his exemplary K/BB numbers. As Kirk has started making harder contact in May conversely he's started to receive far more regular playing time, and now is fully deserving of this. For May he received 82 plate appearances, and as he's really heated up during the last few weeks he's started to see more pinch hit appearances and some DH time as well.

Kirk deserves more PAs regardless of his hot streak. Kirk has proven hitting talent which is reflected in his professional stats, scouting tools, and preseason projections. All of this information was available prior to a handful of April appearances, where Tapia and his .050 ISO was consistently given more PAs. Obviously the front office has a very different valuation method for Kirk and Tapia, but quite frankly they're wrong.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Kirk is 5'4'' and 310 pounds and he catches. I think some off days are probably a good idea for him.
