Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 He can manage the rest of this weird ass season. But if this manager isn’t replaced in the off-season the finger gets pointed at Shatkins.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 The impact of managers is highly overrated Managers can create a loss far more easily than they can a win.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 He almost lost us the first game too by leaving Dolis in.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Not that I'm thinking they should tank (they definitely should tank), has MLB set the 2021 draft format?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 The impact of managers is highly overrated Almost nil...but this happens with every team even with smart fans.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Almost nil...but this happens with every team even with smart fans. not something you can calculate....so if it's not on fangraphs it's a myth. I just saw a manager s*** the bed.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 He doesn't appear to use his pitching staff very effectively, that's for sure. Got too quick a hook in some cases, which leaves him stuck in others. There was no need at all to use 8 pitchers today.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Can we really pin this one on Montoyo? The bullpen management was bad but Giles pitch well before getting hurt. Oof. The pen just got a lot worse.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 His elite closer s*** the bed today, and he had no good arms left in the pen for the 10th inning. I'm not a fan of Montoyo's, but this is a weird time for this thread.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 So Kevin Cash won that game? NIL. Ken Giles leaves the game one or two batters earlier it's a jays win. Not NIL. Giles might end up having tommy john due to his incompetence. NOT NIL.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 They should’ve took out Giles during the first mound visit.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I'm more concerned with his pitcher use BEFORE Giles than I was with how he cobbled together the remainders afterwards... You realize the nice thing about only letting Romano throw 10 pitches is that he'll be available for the next game right? Could you imagine not even having him available if he goes out for a second inning?

His velocity was way off and he wasn't even close to the strike zone with his fastball.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 It’s a weird season. Now Verlander is injured. Pitchers simply don’t ramp up in 2.5 weeks after sitting for 3 months, that’s not how it works.
Rockhaus Verified Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Why can’t these guys go back to back games? They only had 5 months to get ready! Asking seriously? What’s the deal?

Could you imagine not even having him available if he goes out for a second inning? Not just him though... Hatch and Kay could both have gone longer, he artificially created a need to use 3 pitchers to bridge to Giles. He also used his 4 "highest leverage" pitchers in 2 out of 3 games. With a 4 run lead he didn't need Romano/Bass/Dolis as the guys right there. I was okay with the Hatch to Kay move at the time, but I fully expected Kay to go 5+ innings when that move was made.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 He can lead us to another top 5 pick first
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 No s*** a closer is going to say he's fine. Jesus f*** man, you're a major league manager, you should know the symptoms when a pitcher is hurting.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Fire this man Wow that’s even worse response than I was expecting. I thought he was going to atleast take some accountability. Awful... just awful.

Yeah, I guess the low velocity, lack of command, and obvious signs of discomfort weren't enough to make that call. This is a staggering level of incompetence exhibited by Montoyo here.
