It’s nice to see some young pitching depth for once, and not have to make calls for the lefty knuckleballer Ryan Feierabend (he’s now in the CPBL btw).

I tend to agree that Thornton might be better served as a multi inning reliever, but he made some adjustments in September and saw great results. When someone tinkers with their repertoire and results change positively, then it's better to see if that is sustainable before pulling the plug. I'm fine with him in the rotation for now, even if everyone were healthy. The Jays need some upside in the rotation aside from Pearson. Thornton might have some if the pitches he learned from Buchholz helped him out long term.

He would be effective as a high leverage guy I think. They’d milk him as a 5th starter until there’s no room, like when Pearson comes up.

Jesus - my wife milks my prostate longer than that! hahaha

LOL poor Charlie, we’ll have to look the other way for 7 days.

Where are they sending him 'down' to for a week? There is no minors this year.

The taxi squad in Buffalo. You think they'll look at each other, lol.

imagine being mad because a SP prospect is starting the 6th game of the season rather than the 4th or 5th.

So he should start on Thursday and Jays make him wear another number to bambuzal the mom. Who does she think she is Mrs. Lind?

“Hi Nate. Sorry you’re not ready to make the roster on opening day. We’ll put you on the taxi squad. But if you polish your control for a week we’ll ease you into the league by facing Max Scherzer at Nationals Park.”

Nationals have a DH so at no point in time is Pearson facing Scherzer. He's facing the nine hitters in Washington's lineup. I thought that since nobody cares about W-L records anymore that thinking like this would go to the wayside?

I know what you're saying and I thought the same thing myself. However, when the other guy is out there dominating and putting up zero's - it's very difficult not to feel added pressure to be perfect and keep your team in the game.

Too bad he isn't facing Scherzer while we're on that train of thought. He's a s***** hitter.

Nah, it's not that simple. Pitchers can definitely try too hard - or try to be too fine in certain situations if they know there's no room for error. That usually compounds into other issues. I f***ing love analytics as much as the next guy, but there's still some human component to it and this is a good example of it.

I've pitched in a men's league for the past 20 years. I realize it doesn't effect everyone the same, but it happens and it probably happens more in younger players.

Agreed. Pitchers are not robots, no matter how much Halladay conditioned us to believe they are. Pearson even admitted to feeling pressure which messed with his delivery mechanically in Fenway.
