A lot of doctors are saying that the tests are only about 50% accurate. I had a neighbor who tested positive and wasn't even sick in the slightest. She only got tested because she worked in a nursing home. I really don't think the virus is even that much of a threat

Bruh, it's a 75% chance of a false negative.

One of the good things about Roger Goodell. 0% chance that the NFL season will be delayed or cancelled.

Well, he doesn't have to deal with Tony Clark so he has that going for him.

I actually think the positive tests and having to quarantine out of Florida is going to help MLB's case here. The chances of MLBPA winning a grievance case after rejecting the latest proposal and the virus forcing the league to have a shorter time frame to get the games in will be damn difficult.

I think Manfred ends up proposing a season (between 50-56 games) and then from there it is up to the virus as to whether they start/finish the season.

Hopefully all the people who were white knighting for the players will enjoy this. Expanded playoffs would have helped the sport. Universal DH would have helped the sport. The MLBPA said "when and where" because they weren't being offered their prorated salaries, but then when MLB gave them prorated salaries for 60 games, they said "sorry we meant 'when and where' on our terms". This is why I'm in the middle on this. There is no sympathetic side here. Both sides are crap.

When owners don't spend money this winter, and free agents are getting squeezed because owners were not allowed to recover some of the lost revenue in 2020, then Tony's going to have to explain to the union how he screwed them again.

This does look kinda bad on the MLBPA.

When you have the players come out and say “Tell us when and where” on a 48 game season, then the owners propose 60 game full pro-rated (with caveats such as grievance waiver) only to be rejected, then countered with 70 games and bigger playoff bonus pool, it kinda defeats the whole integrity behind the “When and where” movement.

That said, when half the league is getting paid MLB minimum, they have every right to fight for fair salary. But the whole mediation process was done very poorly from both sides. We’ll know very soon if there’s baseball in 2020, likely a decision this week.

Agreed. Also, if Manfred implements a 60 game season fully prorated, then the only thing the players gained by rejecting the last offer was the ability to file a grievance. What are the odds that they can even win that? How do you prove Manfred acted in bad faith when states were locked down for months and ST facilities in mid June had to be quarantined due to positive tests? If he mandated a 48 game season, then maybe, but he is apparently about to give them the same amount of games as he offered them in the last proposal, only there won't be expanded playoffs, which would have helped the sport recover revenue and get more markets in the playoff race. If I cared about who looks better between these two unlikable factions, I'd actually score a point for Manfred here. The players look a lot worse than they did before.

It's clear neither side cares about the general growth of the sport, but at least MLB will do things based on the financial growth of the game. Not sure the players can spin this positively. Whatever. Implement a season, make sure the players can stay safe, and lets get this circus on the road.

What these guys have done is assure me that we're heading for a strike in '21, f*** me.

Lengthy strike is imminent. The two sides have their own agendas, which is fine, but they have no idea how to talk to each other without needlessly getting the public involved, insulting each other, and pointing fingers.

Baseball is back July 1 report dates 60 game schedule implemented by MLB.

To be clear, the players are to report to prepare for the season on July 1. What was the earlier date bandied about - July 19?

I'm not feeling a lot of enthusiasm. Thinking this is not going to go well.

Of course the players are going to say no we're not going report because it's too dangerous because of Covid. A week ago they said the owners were using Covid as an excuse and they were ready to play. It's a s*** show. The players are greedy bastards. They are going to file a grievance. Then the MLB will say they didn't hold up their end of the March bargain and try and take service time back and fight will really be on.

The players would be idiots if they didn't report. Some may not report for other reasons (health), but I'd expect most/nearly all players to be ready for ST on July 1.

Where the Jays report is the question. Florida seems like a s*** show right now, and getting into Canada is likely a no go for the rest of the season. Maybe Buffalo is the solution here.

Based on conversations with a number of players, there is a strong expectation the MLBPA will vote yes on MLB's proposed July 1 report date, codify the health-and-safety protocol (with some slight tweaks) and lock in a 60-game season that begins around July 24, sources tell ESPN.

Ok.. so they rejected a 60-game proposal at 5 PM, but now that Rob Manfred is forcing them to play 60 games and report for ST on July 1st, they’re going to vote yes?

They don't have to agree to expanded playoffs for 2 seasons or a universal DH in this scenario.

Yes, the MLB 5 pm proposal eliminated the player's right to file a grievance. By doing this, they retain that right. Or something like that.

They took less money and now will spend more money on legal fees for a grievance they have no shot of winning. I think it's time to replace the executive members not named Daniel Murphy.

Who really cares....let's take the Jays to Buffalo and get this party started!

If I've noticed anything from these negotiations, it's that the players seem more galvanized and cohesive than they have been in recent memory.

I'm actually pretty happy with this result because it keeps the playoffs intact. I feared that the expanded version would not disappear after the 2 years.

The players getting screwed under the leadership of Tony Clark is like the sun rising every morning. Some things don’t change. You’re right they have no chance of winning this grievance, so this seems pointless, but whatever. I’ll take the 60 games. I really wanted expanded playoffs, though. I might be the only one but make it happen some day.

I'm all for expanded playoffs. 22 years without playoffs wasn't fun imo and we're still i a division with the yankees and red sox, but whatever...let's get things going and start discussing baseball instead of owners and players fighting over money.

I hear you, but finally making it was even sweeter. It would mean so much less with sub .500 teams making the playoffs.
