P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 That's odd because I see players getting added to the 10 day IL everyday now (thru Rotoworld) with little to no information on why (which I'd assume meant they got COVID). It appears that isn't the case. Well, that wouldn't make sense, then, because by saying nothing they'd be admitting that the player(s) in question do indeed have COVID. I believe that all injuries, including COVID-related absences, are not being specified to the media this season to protect those that are COVID-positive.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 False positive rate seems to be around 20%.... and the requirement is for two negatives after a positive. Gonna be a weird season.

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Bitmoji-man says they’re making a last ditch effort to include expanded playoffs. Let’s see.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Please for the love of god no 16-team playoffs. Jesus Christ. I mean the way I see it... more Baseball. And its not like whoever wins the World Series this year is going to be remembered as a true champion anyway.

And we definitely don't need to see 100-win teams facing 75-win teams in a best of 3 in 2021.

This year they are making an exception that’s all. I don’t want to see that 2021 or behind either. I think the current playoff structure is fine. The only thing I would really change trying to even the playing field because some divisions are just stacked compared to others. That opens up a whole other can of worms with a traveling schedule though.

The owners would push this agenda in the CBA regardless if it gets implemented in 2020, there’s just too money to ignore. It may not expand to 16, but certainly more than 10. Which means there will be an overhaul to the WC structure and postseason format. I’d probably support a 12-14 team postseason, which is near the baseline of not allowing a team in with a losing record.

The other 8 teams (for example) play best of three to determine the final 4 teams. The top 4 then get to pick (in order of standings) who they want to face (well, the top 3 do anyway). That would spice things up a bit! Make all the other series best of 7.

You likely wouldn't want the top teams to sit for too long with no game action given how timing and rhythm oriented the game of baseball is.

The cards won the world series with 83 wins in 2006 and the Jays had 87 wins that season. Would have been nice to see the Jays in the post season that year.

If it has to happen, I would prefer if the top 4 teams in each league get a buy for a few rounds and let the bottom 4 teams battle it out together and the winner of them faces the #4 ranked team in each league, just like the wildcard game we currently have.

That doesn't quite work, as you'd have 5 teams trying to get to 1 (top 4 + the other team). Could have top 3 or division winners though.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Please for the love of god no 16-team playoffs. Jesus Christ. It's a few too many for a normal season, but for this season it's the right thing to do. Hopefully after the new CBA there's a happy medium of 12-14 teams including wildcards.

That opens up a whole other can of worms with a traveling schedule though. The moment they expand the playoffs once, they will never go back. Just like the universal DH. There's way too much TV money to be made, and once they get fans back to attend playoff games there will be more gate money as well. If 16 teams are making it in 2020, then it will change moving forward, IMO. This is where they need to have expansion though, because 16 out of 30 is more than half the league. That's a bit ridiculous. I say start with 14 teams in 2021, and then 16 teams once they add two teams in expansion, whenever that is.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I wish they would have started the season full bore today instead of only 4 teams. It also gives them an extra day to use as a make up day etc... Point being, if you were cleared to start the 23rd, why not all...?
