Jays starting pitchers yesterday are a perfect example. Only 1/4 masked, and although they were sitting 1 seat apart they were still reaching over, shouting in each others face. They had an entire ballpark to spread out in.

Though I guess it may seem a bit ridiculous to SD in the ballpark when they will just be hopping on a place together anyway.

And I noticed players won't high five on the field but in the dugout everyone is , I noticed this in several games

Also, interesting that they're calling these games canceled and not postponed. So the season is going to end wit a bunch of teams having played different amounts of games?

The official statement says postponed.

How about this:

- Cancel the 2020 season as currently designed

- Each team sends one hitter and one batting practice pitcher to a bubble stadium

- HR derby for the 2020 World Series

- Back back back back back back back back back back back back

How about this.

- 1 week pause.

- Season resumes in 1 week.

- Masks Mandatory in dugout, in ballpark, in every day life.

- Fines for not wearing a mask or no SD.

- Mandatory Social Distancing in every day life (no trips to the bar or strip club)

- Fines for breaking the rules

- Season cancelled if there is another outbreak.

I don't know. This has been going around https://www.livescience.com/hair-stylists-infected-covid19-face-masks.html.

But maybe if the hair dressers were around their clients 5 hours a day it would of been passed on anyway. Maybe it isn't salvageable.

The sad part about this for MLB is that the TV ratings were really good so far. Maybe it was just because nothing else was on, but people obviously missed baseball. Shutting down again would hurt the sport.

I was told by many posters here that masks don't work

Give it a try, and if the players are legitimately abiding by proper protocols, masks and SD in and out of ballpark, and it still spreads then cancel season. It would be a shame to cancel the season without even trying proper mask and SD protocol.

If the league and PA were serious about having a full season they could have had five 6-team hubs and played three games a day at each park. I'm guessing it would have been feasible to create a bubble for 6 teams around a MiLB park in Montana or whatever, with little risk of infection.

It's embarrassing how much more sense this clearly makes, when MLB put apparently no effort in having a workable plan. Again the NBA is basically playing in gymnasiums and managed to sort out any video/camera issues and even sound issues to the point where it's pretty cool hearing the game

TBF basketball hasn’t got as many people involved and not all the teams are included anyway. I’d also assume it’s easier for the league to consult and agree a plan with the players in the NBA.

You brought out the f***ing dogg!

I don't care if you are pro or anti mask effectiveness. We are not going to post anymore about whether they work or not. All those that posted without baseball reference are getting banned until game time. Also use the report button. We are adding a new mod and I cannot keep taking PM's on this.

The NBA has a much smaller amount of people, and didn't need to bring all the teams. A better comparison for MLB would be the NFL. If the NFL ends up in a bubble, then MLB really messed up, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Also you can play a professional basketball game anywhere, you really just need a flat spot. The nets are mobile and even the surface is often in pieces. Baseball fields are way different. As fun as a 2020 MLB season in some minor league parks would be, pros wouldn't even like playing on most AAA fields and the park factors might be just insane between venues.

Did something happen that I missed? Bannings?

Non baseball related effectiveness of mask posts and a smug British response. Please keep it to baseball

It's also that there are zero rules on players going out, who travels with them, or where they stay.

They fought over money, and made decisions that were bad for baseball. Even if ratings are great...who cares if the broadcasts are only talking about who isn't playing, who isn't in the crowd and how different it feels. They are not growing the game. That is why I say Manfred and Clark should step down if the season gets cancelled. They didn't do what was best for baseball.

unfair for him to say this when the PA was involved and shooting down options. This comes off very smug.

PA has to come out and speak out about player activity now for sure. This kumbaya s*** from both sides since the season started is not helping anything.

The PA and the league both suck. No sense putting more blame on one or the other. Equally bad for the sport.

Adam Silver is the best example of a commish who has the game’s best interest in mind. Every other league lacks in that.

I'm curious how this Miami outbreak originated. Another Lou Williams strip-joint escapade by someone?

So many factors, they're not in a bubble so guys are free to go and interact with anyone.

This was just put out by DC''s Mayor:

Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued orders to impose restrictions on travelers entering the District from certain US states starting July 27, while maintaining other business restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Travelers entering Washington, DC, for nonessential activities from states with a seven-day average of 10 daily new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents must self-quarantine for 14 days. Maryland and Virginia will be exempted. As of July 27, and until Aug. 10, the affected states are: Arkansas, Arizona, Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.

I think non-essential applies to baseball and the Jays are coming up/arrived from Florida???

Do they need to be that different though? I mean, you don't need stands or anything. Go buy a big farm or two out in the middle of nowhere, build a whole shitload of fields, and have at it. Instant bubble. If players don't like it, they can opt out.

Teams had to get approval from their city/states, which circumvented rules like this i believe. That's why we couldn't play in Pitt. They wouldn't give approval for a 2nd team/set of games
