8 more Marlins players tested positive.

Eight more players and two coaches with the Miami Marlins have tested positive for COVID-19, as an outbreak has spread throughout their clubhouse and brought the total of cases in recent days to at least 14, sources familiar with the situation tell me and

@JesseRogersESPN

And the Marlins - Orioles game is cancelled for tonight. We made it a whole three games in.

Source: Marlins’ game tonight against Orioles in Miami has been cancelled. Team still in Philadelphia.

And this is why there is no baseball in Toronto this year.

I think the biggest issue with playing with COVID is making sure the players and coaches are staying with quite literally their team and the team they oppose. No beaches, no restaurants, no other s***.

Rob Manfred being in charge during a pandemic is one of the scariest things about this season. I was hoping for the best, but even one team having an outbreak impacts the entire season. A few players on each team was expected, but an entire team is hard to work around.

The implications here, of course, are broad-reaching. The Phillies just shared the field with the Marlins for their opening three-game series, which will undoubtedly prompt concerns among Phillies players and staff. The Yankees, meanwhile, had been scheduled to travel to Philadelphia to set up shop in the same visiting clubhouse at Citizens Bank Park that was just home to 14 positive cases. Ramifications beyond the immediate circle of baseball employees exist as well, of course. The Marlins have been staying at a hotel in Philadelphia over the weekend, which means staff on hand there has likely been exposed as well.

Even if MLB does tell the Yankees and and Phillies to go ahead with the games, I wouldn’t be surprised if more players opt out of the season. And if the Phillies are also riddled with covid that might be it for the season.

I don't understand why they would let the Marlins play the last game they did? Why not just delay it when the initial positives were reported? What kind of dumbass planning did they have going. This may not cause the season to end yet, but holy crap MLB needs to be doing a better job. This wasn't an impossible job.

The NBA organized a bubble (that is in Florida!), and had zero positives in their most recent round of tests. Vast gap between management in the two leagues.

A bubble really seems like the only way things could possibly work, and even those are vulnerable to people being dumb and ruining the whole thing.

If they can continue - could they make masks mandatory for infielders and runners?

Masks are not the panacea everyone seems to think they are. The positive effect is minimal at best. Point being, masks are not going to get in the way of an outbreak.

I guess, but there are so many other opportunities for transmission to occur.

Wonder if the entire Marlins team has to quarantine for 14 days now.

You don't know this. And "everyone" does not think masks are a panacea.

Masks are a recommended mitigation measure.

Wouldn't the Marlins team just get tested? You don't quarantine if you test is negative do you?

Don't make me google a word on a Monday morning Boxy. That's rude.

I realize it's not the ultimate solution, but it could be something they do to 'help' (even if it's only a marginal improvement).

I suppose. But false negatives / false positives is a problem. From what I have seen, the % of these is relatively high.

Agreed, but the MLBPA was not going to agree to a bubble, which I believe is what put the kibosh on the "Florida-Arizona-Texas" bubble idea that was floated around a few months ago. I don't even know how baseball can be played in a bubble. There are just so many people involved. I don't think it was even realistic.

Even if this were true. The fact that it contributes positively to reduce infections should be grounds enough for a rule to be implemented.

The MLB knew that this would happen. The lack of a bubble, people not giving a s*** about social distancing protocols, the 2-3 day testing lag. It's the reason we get taxi squads and a deep-ass player pool. They knew we'd get lots of cases and entire teams getting ravaged by it - their whole plan was to just push through it.

Lets face it, the train has left the station and the only thing stopping it is someone dying.

What are your numbers?? A and B sitting together.... A has Corona

Neither masked - Probability of transmission - 60%

B masked - Probability of Transmission 30%

A masked - Probability of Transmission 10%

both masked - Probability of Transmission 4%

Of course my number are half ********, and based on memes and some simple analysis I've seen going around. I deserve to be called out with better numbers....

Still my crappy numbers are better than no numbers.
