Schilling is one of your favourite guys on twitter? That explains a lot..lol.

Mocking conservatives for liking conservative things. That'll really help to get Canadians from other parts of the country to give a s*** about western interests, including your dying oil industry!

Schilling is an ******* and a wing nut. I don't hate conservatives. I often vote conservative. I most certainly will vote conservative in the next federal election. I find it funny that die hard party people who identify left or right and will agree with anything anyone of the left will say if they lean left or agree with anything anyone on the right will say if they lean right.

I've wrote scathing things about Jenny Durkan too. I've been critical of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. I think they are both terrible candidates.

Don't blame me. I just thought I was calling Schilling an *******. I've never once voted NDP or Green in my life and I was labelled a tree huger for stating the obvious.

I didn't.

Jim duquette and Mike Ferrin were just talking about the intrigue of the Blue Jays lineup with the young talent and streaky hitters with the addition of Nate Pearson. Grichuk and Teoscar are very streaky. Over 162 things even out, but over 60 they could put up a .600 OPS or a .900 OPS or anything in between. It's too bad we don't have expanded playoffs for this year.

Are you subtly trying to bring religion into the mix as well?

Well I wouldn't be so quick to dance on the grave of the Western Canadian (and also offshore Newfoundland) oil and gas industry if I still lived up there and was concerned about the general economic health of the country!

It's a pretty weird insult considering the western provinces are basically the countries most conservative regions politically.

I remember when the oil industry was dead in the 90s. The death of the oil industry has been vastly over stated.

Well, if the Jays are considered a streaky and wildly variable team that will either overperform or really suck over a shortened season, expanded playoffs do not help. More chances for the team's inferiority to be exposed. The best case scenario is for all the players to get hot over 2 months, the team massively outperforms then wins the wild card game.

Actually the best case scenario is a 4 game set against the Orioles and whoever has the best record in the AL after 4 games goes straight to the World Series.

It's a fact, not an insult. With the price of oil being where it is and current economic conditions despite the stock market, the oil sands will struggle. I hope this is considered an economic and not a political post.

My best case scenario is that the Jays win the World Series and don't have to trade players for prospects because the future is now as well as the future. But yeah we know Jim. Your best case scenario always involves trading players for prospects fapping fantasies. Pat Gillick did that 100% of the time and that's what made him such a successful GM.

Giles is a FA after this year.

I’d probably try and extend Giles. The BP is a mess and in order to compete you need at least a couple guys like him. If the goal is to begin contention in 2021 just act in good faith and offer an extension. 2/16 or 3/21. Free agency will be a crapshoot so that might entice him to not test the market.

Agreed, but 2021 is a tad early to be thinking of contention, IMO. Will be better for sure, but contention.... hmmm.

Ahh baseball talk. A reminder of how pessimistic, I mean realistic you are Jim.

They have no long term payroll commitments aside from Grichuk, and Tulo will soon be off the ledger. I’ll support it if they want to offer Giles an extension. This won’t impact their ability to keep the kids as they won’t start entering free agency until 2026.

And honestly, how big of a haul can you get at the August trade deadline for a month of Ken Giles?

Well sure, a rotation led by 34 yr old Ryu and Pearson, with not much else behind them, could squeak into the playoffs.

I actually think because of not having any long term commitments aside from Grichuk, the Jays should hold off from signing Giles to an extension. The free agent market might be crowded with bargains this winter. Even the top end free agents probably won't get paid as much as they expected prior to Covid. Before sinking in to a longer deal with Giles, which we might be able to do anyway if we wait, I'd prefer seeing what's out there first. If owners don't spend money this winter, then the Jays are one of the few teams who could benefit (low payroll, a s*** load of players making the minimum, etc).

Anything can happen in a 60 game season, but there’s definitely room for skepticism. I don’t blame Jim here. We are far from being favorites to win the AL East and our 60-game schedule is quite tough, even with all the opposing ace pitchers having surgeries this year.

If the kids have a hot start though, we definitely have a shot.

I think you were going for central Canada. Lots of woke commies in BC.

When I say contention, I’m talking about playoff contention. We’ve recently seen teams open their windows a year earlier than they were supposed to. Toronto could be that team in 2021.

IMO in a normal season our baseline would be around .500. We've still got questions about the outfield, bullpen, rotation health, and infield defence.

But over 35 wins has a good chance of at least a wildcard this year. A couple of hot weeks and suddenly anyone could make it!
