Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 I tend to not pay attention to fans on social media, but today for whatever reason I figured I'd give it a go. There's actually a large portion of Jays fans that will be outraged if they Jays trade LGJ for Lindor(with an extention), straight up. Are all fan bases this dumb? Yes, the bigger the worst they are.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 I'm not sure what that actually means, but we had additional expenses in Buffalo and every team got their TV money. If you're expecting the Jays to add 80 to 90 mil from these levels, you might be disappointed. 40 to 50 mil is far more realistic. And that'd be great! We already spent 8 million of that on Ray. If we signed Springer or got another big named player, we'd be left bargain bin shopping for the remainder of our of needs. Hoping we are closer to the 70M dollar range.

Thats not really 8M extra though Ray was slated to make 9M in 2020 on the contract with Arizona

Ray Verified Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Jays projected to have the 5th best position player core in 2021, according to Fangraphs. Pretty insane to see us tied with the Yankees and other teams who've supplemented their core with free agents/big trades, while we have yet to really add any position player of significance just yet. Most every position is home grown for us, barring Grichuk.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Look at the red in the 3B column.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Vlad just has one of those bodies that will never great but he does look miles better than he did in season. Hopefully he looks even better getting into camp.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Looks like Acuna Jr. in that pic

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 So Trout is an 8 and nobody else is even a 7? Crazy. Trout is an inner circle great. Betts on the way to being a slam dunk Hall of Famer barring injury and Trout has nearly double his career WAR while only being one year older. He's just absurdly good. Speaking of all-time greats currently in the league, 22 year old Juan Soto projects to be the second best hitter and player in baseball lol.

Soto could easily be the best hitter in baseball for the next decade. But Trout and Betts provide value in areas he won't. Kinda how Miggy was the best hitter in the game for a while even while Trout was more valuable overall.

Yes, in a general blue jays message board discussion board, let's hope that the Angels blow over the cap and get Bauer and Gray just to make the playoffs. I'm going to hope the Jays get Bauer and Gray and they will still have 50 mil less in payroll than the Angels. Who would the Angels even have to trade for Gray. Screw the Angels.

Kinda how Miggy was the best hitter in the game for a while even while Trout was more valuable overall. This might be hard to believe but Trout is probably a better hitter than Miggy was. His career wRC+ is currently higher than Miguel Cabrera's prime (2003-2016) and higher than Albert Pujols' Cardinals career (2001-2011). Even Soto who is a generational hitting talent still has some ground to climb to match Trout's 20 year old rookie campaign wRC+ over a full season, although he might very well have done that in a full 2020 season.

The Angels have plenty in their farm system to acquire Sonny Gray.

I'm less invested than you are in the fortunes of the Toronto Blue Jays. It's OK - everyone is different. And like Org says, the Angels have some pieces to move if they decide to trade for an ace: Adell, Marsh, Adams, Detmers, maybe something around Fletcher. It would empty out an already thin system, but they could make it happen.

It's a mediocre system in that it lacks depth as you say but they definitely have some toolsy high upside guys to move along with some high floor stat scouty types which dumb fans like us can fawn over. It's a tragedy how much Trout's career is being wasted.
