connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 K............... You made a dumb post...happens to us all.. just accept it and move on.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 They are all good teams. Not sure how you pick a preferred opponent among them. Rays: Snell, Glasnow, Morton + 11th best position player assortment in MLB + #1 bullpen (well rounded opponent) Indians: Bieber, Carrasco, Plesac, Civale + #3 bullpen + 17th position player assortment (great pitching) White Sox: Giolito, Keuchel, Dunning + #9 bullpen + #2 position player assortment (great lineup and two good SP) Twins: Maeda, Berrios, Pineda, Hill + #5 bullpen + #7 position player assortment (well rounded opponent) Toronto is #16 position player assortment, #12 bullpen, + Ryu and crap. Clear underdog against any of them. Need to rely on players who did not really help them much during the regular season (as far as total fWAR is concerned) like Pearson, Ray, Kirk, Villar, Stripling, Shoemaker, and Vlad. I have more faith in our lineup v/ good pitching as opposed to our pitching against a good lineup... Any of those teams we have a chance against in a 3 game series, though I'd like to face Cleveland the least.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Toronto just doesn’t care if they finish 8th or 5th. Right now New York would play Cleveland. I’ll take the Rays, thanks!!! I agree, but with the pressure off to win or else, I think they sweep this series. playing loosey goosey.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 You made a dumb post...happens to us all.. just accept it and move on. Easy... 3 foot. Before you get a smackdown.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Easy... 3 foot. Before you get a smackdown. I’ve heard robotic arms are becoming more affordable and accessible so maybe I will be careful. Sorry

Given a chance to pick I still pick the Sox. They are a lot like the Jays...young and dumb and probably think they are better than they are. White sox vs KC, Det and Pit 21-3 7.95 runs scored per game, 3.20 runs against White sox vs Twins, Indians, Reds, Brewers and cubs 13-21 3.58 runs scored, 4.53 runs against. They have done well to beat up on those teams but them and the Jays are the two teams that have benefitted the most by this season. Some doubt must be creeping into the Sox heads though
Ray Verified Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I knew our offense was good, but I didn’t know it was 2nd most runs in the AL scored good. We’re slashing .257/.327/.442 for a .770 OPS as a team, good for 3rd best in the AL. For reference, Yankees are combining for a .788 OPS
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Yeah, he said that on the pre-game show as well, that post was prior to the game when I saw the line-up, I was right! We'll likely see one of Teo/Grichuk and one of Bichette/Vladdy sit today for rest. Like I said, tomorrow will be Teo and Vlad... 1. Cavan Biggio (L) 3B 2. Jonathan Villar (S) 2B 3. Teoscar Hernandez ® RF 4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ® 1B 5. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ® LF 6. Travis Shaw (L) DH 7. Alejandro Kirk ® C 8. Joe Panik (L) SS 9. Jonathan Davis ® CF
Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Yanks down 3-0 early Not anymore......LOL
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Huh... I went out and picked Zeuch up to piggy back him. What is this FO up to, lol? Lots of BP innings again today.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Yankees win. So Jays would have to sweep now and Yanks must lose tomorrow. Don't see it happening, but you never know
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Yankees vs teams other than Red Sox this year 22-25
Ex Player Verified Member Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Yankees vs teams other than Red Sox this year 22-25 Yankees 22-8 at home against everyone else. Thank god for the bubble
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Yankees 22-8 at home against everyone else. Thank god for the bubble Blue Jays are 17-8 at the Shitdome so it works both ways.
TheDragon Verified Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 I heard some mumblings about the rotation but for me it it's black and white. 1-Ryu 2-Walker 3-Shoemaker Is there some dum reason this will not be the rotation, in that order, for the Rays series?

There was talk that Ryu was requesting an extra rest day, which would have him start game 2. Not sure yet.

TheDragon Verified Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 There was talk that Ryu was requesting an extra rest day, which would have him start game 2. Not sure yet. We should give our best chance to win game 1... if we lose game 1 then we're playing under pressure, seems like a really stupid idea. Hypothetical: Maybe Ryu pitches a gem in game 2 but our bats are pressing just a bit because we're down 1 game and we wind up not scoring enough runs... boom, season over.

If he needs an extra day, give him the extra day. If he pitches in game 1 or 2 it won't really matter.
TheDragon Verified Member Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 If he needs an extra day, give him the extra day. If he pitches in game 1 or 2 it won't really matter. But it does matter which is what I was saying.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 But it does matter which is what I was saying. Disagree. I think you're really overstating the effects of being down 1-0 in a 3 game series. Yes, it puts the team at a statistical disadvantage, but it's not going to turn the whole team into pudding brains, and the whole "WOW WE'RE IN THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE FIRST TIME" would be just as likely to cause "pressing".
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 But it does matter which is what I was saying. I agree - it does matter - you want to win Game 1 at all costs. But - if he says he need another days rest, then you give it to him.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 You have to win 2 games. Does not matter at all...and if anyone throws the momentum word at me I will rage ban half the board
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 The only negative impact is it pushes his schedule a day back for the next series but if he wants the extra day, gotta go with that. Not like he’s the Cap Ripken of SP

Not like he’s the Cap Ripken of SP Pitching Wednesday he will still be on schedule to pitch game 1 on Monday in San Diego
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I can't recall the exact number, but Sportsnet had a graphic earlier today with team's record after winning game 1 of a playoff series. It was 124-39 or something, a huge discrepancy. I won't pretend to know the reasons, but game 1 is more important than game 2. It's a fact.
