Hard to see how baseball teams fit into the category of essential travel, especially given the stated rules that rule out allowing tourism, recreation or entertainment workers.

So why are the NHL players allowed in?? They already broke that rule for NHL players and the decision was made because supposedly the bubble system was less of a risk. In fact they also broke the rule for the Blue Jays themselves for summer training.

I have also heard that the broadcast crews from NBC will be allowed in for NHL games. So there are exceptions being made.

The NHL bubble is largely a one-time crossing; teams cross and then hunker down and bubble up (in theory). It's similar to what Toronto did for summer training this month, but at a much larger scale.

The MLB plan really was not a bubble. It was different teams crossing from different US locations every series. It was Toronto flying out and back again numerous times. And all of these other US locations have different rules. Guaranteed in some of the US locations with lax rules players will be breaking whatever flimsy bubble rules MLB or the team have.

I don't think reference to the daily border crossings is a fair criticism. As has been stated, this is mostly commercial traffic of the essential variety. We need essential workers and we need to eat. Nobody needs baseball in Toronto.

You answered your own question already. Having the Jays players and coaches fly in one time and having them effectively quarantine in their hotel for a month is certainly different than having a new team and staff flying in several times a week.

Maybe Toronto would actually have a competitive advantage playing out of a minor league stadium because the team is so young.

Tell some crusty vet like Madison Bumgarner that he has to prepare and play out of Buffalo and he'll have a tantrum. Tell Nate Pearson or Bo Bichette that and it's just any other Wednesday, my dudes.

Nobody needs NHL in Canada either. Nobody needs toys, game consoles and other goods delivered to Walmart, I bet half the commercial traffic coming through isn't really essential.

Are the benefits of having an NHL Bubble greater than the risks? It seems people think so. Fair enough

Are the benefits of having the Blue Jays play in Canada greater than the risks? It seems people think not. Fair enough.

However if people think MLB baseball in Toronto, is a serious incremental risk (beyond the risks we are already taking) then that isn't right. It's a small incremental risk, and it's OK to be against it, as long as you are consistent, and against all other small incremental risks which are non-essential.

I don't really disagree.

If you have a child living in Florida, you can book a flight today, go see them and come back. Now once you return if you live in a place that requires a connecting flight you will land in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Edm and then hop on a domestic flight to get to your final destination. All the people on the plane flying domestically are not made aware that there is someone on the plane who was just in Florida hours ago.

Jesus Christ, I know the correct grammatical usage if I was writing a sentence in college. However, it is common slang to use “could” and when I am using slang and cursing I could give a f*** about proper grammar.

Only fnnn Poindexters are going to shout at someone, I couldn't give a f***..

Just to clarify, on your formal college essays you would use "couldn't give a f***", but on the street you choose to use the slang version "could give a f***"? Hmm I don't know, seems a lot more likely that you just had it wrong.

This classic Alex Rios video seems pertinent at the moment:

Yup, what he said.

By the way- I partied with Rios a few times back in the day. The problem was, he was going out late before day games and s***. Guys like Glaus were going to bed early since it was an afternoon start and Rios is asking me which clubs to go to at 11 pm at night... Might have had something do with his on field performance towards the end there.. I don't know...

Interestingly, a lot of the criticism of Rios had to do with the kind of mistakes a player would make if they weren't mentally prepared to play.

It's common slang to say the exact opposite of what you're intending to say? That doesn't make sense to me but I guess I could give a s***

Should've let them play at the rogers centre tbh.

The virus isnt going anywhere any time soon. What is canada going to do when the NHL and NBA start their next season?

Not only that, plenty of people are crossing the border every week. I didnt know it was such a large number. Them blocking the Jays from playing here is definitely to keep up the perception that the border is closed up.

The feds should just spin back around and tell the Jays to make some easy changes to the plan and let them play at RC.

I don't really want to go here, but the statement from the government really makes it seem like this is just an opportunity for Canada to dunk on the US.

I don't get the reason why people need to go out of their way to put down Alford. I think it's unlikely he's going to amount to much either, but he's a pretty nice dude. There's less yelling bust for Mckinney or Fisher and they are both older and were 1st Rounders. Alford was a 3rd round pick. I don't get it.

It's an I told you so situation, I believe. ;)

I was searching for latest news on Arodys Viscaino as I own him Fantasy, Jays should've signed him up, man. His numbers have been good when healthy. Also, I still can't wrap my head around our club not wanting to sign Puig, or any other team for that matter. Meh... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At least if the Jay's play in Pittsburgh we won't have to come up with a new Canadian motto. We ARRRR the North works right?

My hot take out of all of this is there will never be another MLB franchise in Canada. The Rays if they relocate will go to Nashville, or if there’s expansion it will be Nashville and a 2nd US city. Montreal is done.

Regardless of COVID, or nothing to do with it at all. Nashville and the greater Nashville, area is one of the fastest growing areas in the US. I have spent some time there the past few years including as recently as the end of December. It will be an excellent place for a baseball team. Montreal on the other hand, had one of the lowest growth rates of major metro cities in NA a number of years ago. The demo in Montreal is not what is was from 68 to early 90s with the Expos.

Looking at it from a business stand point, a place players would want to play and live, fan base potential, I would say Nashville hands down!!
