Laika Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 If they were to go this route, why not use Buffalo as the taxi squad and play out of Yankee stadium? Screw the Trop and FLA. Proximity, mainly. Dunedin gives them an actual training hub for the 60 man roster and the Trop is close to Dunedin.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Yeah, that's why I used Buffalo and NY as a better spot in concern to the Rona and proximity. Buffalo to New York is like a 6 hour drive. Dunedin to the Trop is nothing. Maybe Pittsburgh is the answer. Closer to Buffalo.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 As BTS pointed out earlier, I don't think PNC is a good park for our team, defensively.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 PNC park would be sick, it's a beautiful stadium.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I hope the PNC option happens. I think they would only have 6 scheduling conflicts as well as pointed out on Twitter which can be brought down to 5 with a minor schedule change. Or you can do it mostly at PNC and do the other 2 series somewhere else. I think they should keep Buffalo just for the secondary player pool and just run scrimmages all summer. Let all the starters build up innings and all our prospects play. If anyone hasn’thad the chance to go see PNC park before its absolutely gorgeous stadium. If you were going to make after Covid vacation plans. I would recommend going to a game at that ballpark regardless if the Jays are playing the Pirates or not. It will be nice seeing it on TV for this year though.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I don’t think what fits the Jays strengths really matters at this point. Get the players in a big league stadium with big league amenities. PNC would be fine. It’s a beautiful park and built for MLB. If there’s limited conflict with the Pirates, then even better. One underrated aspect of this might be that the players won’t have to play on concrete.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Remains an awful attempt at a nickname. Reads aloud as "A sucky". There's no wit or play on words there, it just doesn't work. To be fair, he's a lot more likely to end up sucky than an ace. Never was trying to be witty, or gave a second of thought to a "cool" nickname. I will leave that stuff to Sports center. The name started in 2018 when no one on this board was giving our best SP any respect. He was our #1 pitcher in 2018 and a bunch of guys on here says he sucks when he has done nothing but perform at the ML level when not injured. Therefore, I started using a Hyperbole name to make a point and show my support and love, which I will continue using, until or IF he Ryan proves me wrong. Same crowd who was so wrong on Biggio, SRF and a bunch of other ones. Will be wrong again.... Lastly, I could give a f*** what you think about what I write on this board. So, there is that too.....

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Aceucki is bad and you should feel bad, it's on par with Gurribabip. Also "couldn't", and JA Happ says hi... The expression is I could give a f***, two shits etc. Why is Aceucki bad as a pitcher??? Where is this suck you are talking about? Did I miss some years of his starts when he was not injured? I already addressed the "nick name". I am surprised you are not higher on him to be honest. Generally it appears we have the same taste in players... For what it's worth, I saw him pitch in person when I was visiting TO. The dude is a ball player, as mentioned he has that winner attitude and at the end of the day was getting results when not injured... I predict he will pitch better then Tanner, the ball is caught by a fanner in the 500 section, if given a spot and healthy... Probably will out pitch Kay also..

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Jesus Christ, I know the correct grammatical usage if I was writing a sentence in college. However, it is common slang to use “could” and when I am using slang and cursing I could give a f*** about proper grammar. Only fnnn Poindexters are going to shout at someone, I couldn't give a f***..
WILLIEUPSHAW Verified Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Yeah, it is brutal. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Now, to be fair, we're not 100% sure it was coronavirus (as I haven't been able to get -an antibody test yet), but there is enough damage to my heart that they originally thought it was a heart attack, and they've done just so many tests that ruled that, and everything else out. The "best guess" of my cardiologist is a virus, probably Covid. Regardless, this s*** is awful, and there's an 80% chance that I'll be dealing with it for the rest of my life. Hopefully, it will at least get somewhat better, if not 100% though. Sorry to hear of your health problems! Back in about 2005, not long after the original SARS made its appearance in 2002, I had a (now former) coworker who came down with some infectious disease that eventually attacked his heart and led to heart failure, likely similar to what you have experienced. Like in your case, they could not definitively determine what was the actual culprit. He eventually had a heart transplant 2-3 years later. These things where an infectious disease attacks the heart, while rare, have occured for many years and will continue to happen. I know it just sucks to be one of the unlucky ones to whom it affects! I don't see a big deal about where the Jays play 30 'home' games in a contrived 'season'; and I think Buffalo, despite the substandard amenities and lighting, is sufficient for such a small number of games. The weather there in August and September is likely to be much better than Dunedin, so they should just go with it. Latest I saw is the Jays management is now looking for an 11th hour solution to play 'home' games in one or more MLB stadiums mostly at the prodding from their own players: https://sports.yahoo.com/blue-jays-pitcher-says-team-looking-major-league-202745424--mlb.html P.S. now if they don't get things back to relatively normal by next spring, then I will be irate and ready for a revolt!! Like said earlier in this thread, we need to come out of hiding and stop living scared eventually.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Should've let them play at the rogers centre tbh. The virus isnt going anywhere any time soon. What is canada going to do when the NHL and NBA start their next season? Not only that, plenty of people are crossing the border every week. I didnt know it was such a large number. Them blocking the Jays from playing here is definitely to keep up the perception that the border is closed up. The feds should just spin back around and tell the Jays to make some easy changes to the plan and let them play at RC.

This article sums up the thinking in the decision: "The absurdly divergent, often negligent approach to COVID-19 in the United States — where containment efforts are an abject failure rooted in stubborn, intentional ignorance — stands in sharp contrast to the calculated caution employed by the federal government here. The Blue Jays’ schedule includes three trips to the outbreak epicenter of Florida, including next week to open the season in St. Petersburg against the Tampa Bay Rays, as well as one to the hotspot of Georgia for a series against the Atlanta Braves. The Rays and Miami Marlins each make one visit to Toronto, while the other teams they’d be hosting will have also visited places where cases are spiking. So even with Major League Baseball’s protocol featuring tests every other day, even with an additional test for everyone in Toronto – nasal swab instead of the less intrusive saliva to increase accuracy – the frequent border crossings were an impossible risk variable to resolve. Hence, the travel element avoided by the NHL and NBA with their bubble-protocols — but that MLB chose to forge ahead with — ultimately sunk the Blue Jays’ endeavour. Marco Mendicino, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, said in a statement Saturday that “based on the best-available public health advice, we have concluded the cross-border travel required for MLB regular season play would not adequately protect Canadians’ health and safety.” “Of particular concern,” he added, is that “the Toronto Blue Jays would be required to play in locations where the risk of virus transmission remains high.” In saying as much, Mendicino not only highlighted the dissonant paths taken by Canada and the United States in regards to the coronavirus, but also implied that the MLB plan isn’t foolproof enough to avoid the players acting as vectors for the disease."

That article doesn't do a very good job of quantifying the actual additional risk of baseball travel within the current cross border travel situation. As others have pointed 200,000 people a week are still crossing the border. Flights are coming in from everywhere. While allowing cross-border workers, health-care professionals and essential services workers, Canada says such travel into Canada must be “non-discretionary and non-optional” and does not include tourism, recreation or entertainment. Hard to see how baseball teams fit into the category of essential travel, especially given the stated rules that rule out allowing tourism, recreation or entertainment workers.

The comparable period last year saw 1,217,845 people crossing. Of those land crossings, 104,247 were truck drivers." So about 10,000 non-truck drivers a day along the entire US-Canada border. I would expect most of these are Americans doing essential work in Canada. I understand that at least a few thousand Canadians cross the border at Windsor alone each day to do essential work in the USA. Works both ways. Edited July 20, 2020 by Jimcanuck
