The Pirates are an obvious fit for a catcher and Davidi reported that we checked in on Musgrove, maybe there is something there.

I rather keep both if that's who we get back.

Seems like the FO might have concerns about Jansen's bat. Reese McGuire isn't good enough to make someone like Jansen expendable if Jansen is hitting at even a league-average level, and the minor league catchers have a long road ahead to become MLB players.

It would have to be a very good arm for me to move Jansen.

I don't see them moving Jansen. Maybe McGuire if they feel they are selling high on him, but as a tandem they should be really good value in 2020 and they make nothing. Moreno and Kirk are still a couple of years away so it's not like anyone is knocking down the door.

Selling high on McGuire would definitely seem like the most favorable route.

Musgrove is coming off a 3.3 WAR season, is 27 and has 3 years of control and this guy wouldn't move Reece f***ing McGuire and his 80 wRC+ AAA bat for him. That is mind numbing stupidity.

Another disappointing winter meetings for the blue jays. Didn't really improve anything.

But this is starting to be the norm for this team. Talk a good game but do nothing.

Imagine having contempt for acquiring a guy like Musgrove who was the f***ing headliner in the Gerrit Cole deal for Reese McGuire and his 73 wRC+ in AAA with 100 flukey MLB PAs.

I could look this up but i'm lazy, what did we get when we traded Musgrove back in the day? If i remember correctly we traded like 6 fringe guys for someone?

Happ wasn't it?

We traded Carlos Perez, Woj, Musgrove and probably some more for Happ and Brad something off the top of my head.

Ugh, Brandon Lyon. First odd trade of a pretty garbage run for AA until the 2014 offseason

I don't know if the FO would do 5 years of Jansen for 3 of Musgrove. I think they would do 6 of McGuire and so would I. We would probably have to add to him though.

That would have to hurt the fanbase. Give up one of the main pieces you got for Gerrit Cole, in exchange for the throw in piece you gave up for Drew Hutchison.

They still have a fanbase?

They get the occasional acrotomophiliac who stumbles into Piratefest expecting to see a pegleg.

It's the stadium. It's so gorgeous that people keep showing up.

I wish Pittsburgh would get new ownership. It's a great sports City with a great stadium.

Pirates are number 3 in the city at least since the 90's. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Is a great stadium to visit.

Also removing testing for marijuana for minor leaguers.

Excellent, so my plan to sell home grown to the Jays minor leaguers will work perfectly!

What's Phil Bickford's status right now? Dude is about to own now that they'll let him blaze up pre and post game.

Throwing high 90's and getting solid numbers. No one took him in the rule 5. I thought his issue was coke though

Doesn’t look like the Dodgers have had much, if any, contact with Ryu this offseason. Here’s what Ryu had to say: “If the Dodgers wanted to re-sign me, they would have told my agent. I haven’t heard from him yet, and honestly, I don’t have much to tell you right now.”

I’m trying to think about best fits for Ryu, and I don’t know, assuming we offer him a 4th year I feel like there’s a significant chance we can get him. Given his injury history, I think Ryu is much more likely to go to the highest bidder over taking a discount to play some place he prefers geographically. 4 years $80M and I think he’ll be in Blue.

Yeah, I'm a little uncomfortable with that 4th year, which is why I'm pretty sure that's what it will take to get him. If we come in at 4/$80M I think that's the sweet spot of what it would take to get him, and where we'd be getting value.

To play devil's advocate (because I actually want the Jays to sign him), the Dodgers know him better than anyone else, and yet don't view him as a priority. Is there a reason for that? They have a rotation need, he's been there for years, and he'll likely end up less expensive than MadBum who they seem to have turned their attention to according to Rosenthal.

Ryu is a fragile guy. He's going to be 33, never tossed more than 200 innings in a single season, never made more than 30 starts, and doesn't have the best K rates as some of the other elite arms do. He was also pitching in Dodgers Stadium and the NL West frequently, where some of the best pitchers parks are. When he is on the mound, he's very good though. The last two seasons especially.

I would love to see the Jays sign him. Though he's not going to go out and toss 200 + innings. He's more of a 150-180 inning type of guy.

The value of 200 inning guys has been steadily declining with the increased use of bullpens and now especially with the extra roster spot. That doesn't really concern me regarding Ryu.

You could also argue they might be better off rolling with what they have then signing either Ryu Or MadBum given the financial commitment/risk.

Kershaw

Buehler

Maeda

Stripling

May/Urias

That rotation could conceivably exceed 20 fWAR. Adding BP depth and a couple of dartboard vet SPs might be a more plausible route for them.

As other teams get better the jays sit on they asses and do nothing but talk ********.

For the third straight year. What a disappointment this management team is turning out to be.

Enough with the talk and do the right thing. Just do something to help this team get better.

Might be time to force things to get going.
