tazsub3 Verified Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 and the roark signing is the exact problem with this s*** management i was discussing earlier, a 33 player that does nothing , at best a lateral move.

He was better than any pitcher on the team last year not named Stroman, so like... You're objectively wrong?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 It amazes me that we go so long not hearing from Olerud and like f***ing Beetlejuice if you say a 90's Jays name 3 times he arrives.
Todd Verified Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Gord Ash might have sucked ass but the point i'm trying to make with both Pat and Gord is both got s*** done fast and not sat on they asses until something happened. They made in happen fast then played golf the rest of the time. Now who and what they wanted.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Gord Ash was the worst GM in Toronto sports history, and I don't think there is a close second. Anyone defending him, much less saying he was better than Shatkins needs to get away for a while.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Just imagine if there was WAR in Ash's time Olerud (57.3 career WAR) for Person (6.5) Joe Carter 1997 contract extension (coming off of negative WAR season) Roger Clemens (coming off of 10 and 8 WAR seasons) for David Wells (4 and 4) Green for Mondesi (6 WAR for 2) I'm being a bit unfair, because there were contract issues, but I can't imagine any thing like those trades would get made in this day and age. 1. Cucked by Cito 2. Cucked by Cito/Carter 3. Cucked by Beeston's "off the record" promise to Clemens 4. Cucked by Green after Green got cucked by Cito 5. Every one of these lists conveniently leave out the Cruz Jr. trade, which if the Donaldson trade makes up for about five of AA's mistakes, I figure this one has to make up for three of Ash's. I can't believe that I am defending Ash, because he did do legitimately moronic things like the Sirotka and Loaiza deals. But he came in as a rookie GM surrounded by strong personalities coming off the World Series high. How good of a job would you do if you had Cito Gaston, Joe Carter and Paul Beeston yapping in your ear and you actually had to listen to them?
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 The Jays may pick another guy in the Rule V draft tomorrow. With Roster expansion to 26 you may see more picks overall.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Ugh, he's like Aaron Sanchez but is kind of a douche (even more so). Would prefer not to get him.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Pete Walker will fix him with his magic fingers. I bet he'd be a monster reliever. If the fastball gains a couple of ticks it's 97 with a very good slider and a changeup that's better than most reliever's 3rd pitch, and he has pretty decent control.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 The Jays may pick another guy in the Rule V draft tomorrow. With Roster expansion to 26 you may see more picks overall. Come full circle with Phil Bickford. Let late inning bullpen outings be his new drug.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Come full circle with Phil Bickford. Let late inning bullpen outings be his new drug. Yeah him Phil Bickford, RHP, Milwaukee Brewers The 18th pick in the 2015 draft, Phil Bickford had himself a quality season as a member of the Brewers' High-A affiliate's bullpen. He struck out more than 40 percent of the batters he faced, walked less than 10 percent for the first time in years, and continued to keep the ball in the yard despite flyball-centric ways. For as good as the stuff looks, teams have makeup concerns stemming from multiple failed drug tests. As such, Bickford might go unpicked -- even if his pedigree, results, and potential suggest he's worth a look. or Trevor Megill Trevor Megill RHP, San Diego Padres Megill is the largest individual on our list. He's officially 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds, and he looks the part. He spent most of last season at Triple-A, where he struck out nearly 13 batters per nine innings. Rest assured, Megill's game isn't about smoke and mirrors. He upped his velocity to where he sits in the mid-90s and can touch 98 when needed -- and that's just raw velocity; he gets good extension, leading to a quicker perception. Megill also has a plus slider with good spin that is his top secondary offering. He throws more strikes than others on this list, which should put him near the top of any attentive team's board. Edit: Here is one list on others available https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2019-mlb-rule-5-draft-preview-16-names-to-know-including-pitchers-who-could-stick-on-rosters/
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 If Sterling Sharp is still on board when the Jays pick, go with him.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) After passing in the major league phase, the Jays selected Hobie Harris in the MiLB portion of the Rule 5 draft. He looks pretty gross: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/hobie-harris/sa876068/stats?position=P Dany Jimenez was ganked by the Giants in the first round, and Brock Stewart and Danny Young were yoinked in the second. Edit: Jays also lost Jose Espada in the later rounds. Edited December 12, 2019 by P2F
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 2 years old but... Hobie Harris – RHP, 6-foot-3, 200-pounds, 23-years-old – Harris was a 31st round draft pick in 2015, but he could turn out to be so much more valuable than that. Last year he pitched really well in Charleston, with 59 K in 52 innings and a 2.6 ERA. He’s got a mid-90’s fastball and good secondary offerings. He could end up being a real sleeper. He’s likely to begin at Tampa this season.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 5th pick, not competing this year, 26 man roster, they must really not have liked any of the available pitchers! Either that or they anticipate adding more to the roster and want to keep the spots open. I don't think 2020 will be an outright tank like 2019 was.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Ken Rosenthal • The Blue Jays are drawing heavy interest in their young catchers –Danny Jansen and Reese McGuire, both 24 – raising the possibility they could trade one for a starting pitcher with comparable ability and service time. Jansen, the more popular trade target, is under control for five more seasons, McGuire for six. The Jays added a starter on Wednesday by reaching agreement with free-agent right-hander Tanner Roark on a two-year, $24 million contract. Man, that's a tough trigger to pull even if the value is there in the trade. Catchers are so tough to project.

The Pirates are an obvious fit for a catcher and Davidi reported that we checked in on Musgrove, maybe there is something there.
