Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 yes that bat is a dime a dozen...now where's the eye roll emoji. How is a starting pitcher teh QB of the team....they play once every 5 days. Quarterbacks play far fewer games in a season than starting pitchers...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 So Taylor Trammell (despite having a brutal season) is still ranked as the 30th best prospect in baseball by MLB.com My question is....if we traded Stro for Trammell and Scott Moss.....what would the board be excited? happy? pissed? indifferent? Is that a better package than SWR + Kay?

Really, the only thing Trammell is lacking is power, and that's not an issue in the juiced ball era.

TheOutsider Verified Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Taylor Trammell WRC+: 107 Kevin Smith: 103 Josh Palacios: 135 Forrest Wall: 133 I'd say no thanks to that 'headliner'.

It's not just a matter of stats. Some players work on improving an area of their game, and the results or stats in that process are negative, but they develop a skills in the process. Do you remember the Aaron Sanchez "Competitive walks" at minor league level? They worked for good. Bad results in minor leagues products of those walks, but worse result in MLB

And the scouting reports on Trammell's defense aren't exactly glowing. Remember Anthony Gose? He had a 114 WRC+ in double-A when he was younger than Trammell, and with better reports on defense. Still didn't make it.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 PASSEN: Weighing all the pieces in this trade, it’s all the more surprising the Blue Jays couldn’t reel in a greater return for righty Marcus Stroman this past weekend. At $7.4MM, Stroman’s cheaper than Bauer, under control for the same period and has arguably been the better of the two this season. Nevertheless, in a trade with the Mets, the Jays were only able to secure two non-elite prospects – pitchers Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson – for Stroman. There was plenty of chatter afterward that teams were clinging to their prospects and unwilling to give up truly outstanding young talent anymore, but this three-way deal shows that isn’t the case

Really, the only thing Trammell is lacking is power, and that's not an issue in the juiced ball era. So SD gave up Reyes (good hitter, future DH - Mark Trumbo? N.Cruz?) and a back end Top 100 prospect for Trammell (Top 30 prospect) and we think SD got hosed? Would we have been happy getting Reyes and Allen for Stro? For me, Allen = Kay. SWR just seems like a significant risk/reward type, whereas Reyes has a low ceiling, high floor.
