The Jays have $1,476,465 in which to sign Dasan Brown and Philip Clarke, assuming that none of the yet-to-be announced bonuses from 11-40 are overslot. It's hard to say if they'll get Clarke, but it would be pretty savvy to have plucked a man of his baseball talents in the 9th round.

Brown's slot = $678,600

Clarke's slot = $154,900

Both have a lot of leverage, but things are lining up well.

If the calculations above are right they have enough to pay Brown 1M (320K overslot) and Clarke 400k (250K overslot)

Should have been contingent on removing an "n" imo

I strongly disagree. Extra n's are special.

Just speculation, but rumblings are that Brown will sign an above slot deal...and the thought is that Clarke will sign too once the CWS is done.

...$4,547,500 million dollar deal. The deal was actually $2500 below the estimated slot value for an 11th round selection.

Man, 11th rounders do WAY better than I thought...

Very interesting tweet from Callis that explains why so many players sign for an even number, minus $2,500 (like in the case of the Jays signings of Manoah, Williams, Robertson, Eden, Talley, Camacho, Santiago and Dominguez).

If you were to do this for every pick, it'd be a great way to save around $75K of slot space over 30 signings, which is not insignificant with how tight these numbers usually are.

Parker Caracci officially signed.

Who's the fastest white dude from the draft? And how far down on the overall list is he?

Corbin Carroll? But he's half Asian

Napkin math says we have @ 694K left to sign Philip Clarke, slot value @155. **incurring overdraft penalties**

I think we can sign him if he’s only expecting reasonable 4-6th round money, which was projected pre-draft based on BA 500 ranking.

Will Robertson signed for 422.5K

And Tanner Morris signed for 400K

Which is about where Clarke would be valued.

Has any info leaked re: Clarke? Now that the CWS is over, you’d imagine it would be quick if he intends to sign.

Brandon Eisert signs.

A lefty college junior reliever...? I peg Eisert as the first from this draft class to make the bigs.

This has been posted but for anyone who missed it.

___

Philip Clarke

Vanderbilt

C

Notes:

Ht: 5-11 | Wt: 190 | B-T: L-R

Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted

Scouting Report: Clarke ranked No. 166 on the BA 500 coming out of high school, with plenty of scouts appreciating his lefthanded swing and power potential. But he was a strong commitment to Vanderbilt and there were plenty of questions about whether he would stick at catcher long term. Clarke didn’t allay those concerns in an impressive freshman season, when he filled the DH role while junior Stephen Scott was the Commodores’ primary catcher. Clarke caught only 13 games that year, but this spring Scott moved back to the outfield and first base while an improved Clarke has been the team’s regular backstop. Clarke is more consistent as a receiver and he’s more durable this season. A below-average receiver in high school, Clarke now is an average receiver. He has a below-average throwing arm, but he has thrown out 37 percent of basestealers in 2019. Clarke’s bat has long been his calling card. His swing can get a little long at times, but he has solid bat speed and power potential, giving him a chance to be an average hitter with average power. If Clarke can catch, he would make a very valuable bat-first catcher. But if he has to move off the position, he’s not ideally suited for first base because he’s only 5-foot-11. Clarke is a draft-eligible sophomore, giving him plenty of leverage this June.

Awesome! We've basically signed everybody. There's even a little bit of money left to try to sign one or two of the late-round tough signs like Connor Phillips.
