metafour Verified Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 How many picks do the Blue Jays have on day 2? The regular amount lol.

(Deck McGuire anyone?) Deck McGuire didn't throw hard. The only thing similar about them is height. Body shape and stuff is completely different. So no. In no way do I think of Deck McGuire.

(Deck McGuire anyone?) Max Pentecost was also picked 11th overall if you're looking for Jays picks gone wrong at 11

Ray Verified Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 I'm happy to hear his fastball and slider are expected to be a lot better than Zeuch's. Why'd we draft Zeuch again? He fits the Doug Fister 4th or 5th starter type, which is still valuable. I'll take that out of any draft, especially one where we got Biggio and Bichette.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Zeuch lacks strikeout ability, a really plus breaking ball, and mostly a ground ball pitcher. This isn’t exactly the case with Manoah. Not to mention Manoah sits 94-97 and touches 98-99.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 this board is hilarious, anytime a guy is a on the bulkier side he is labeled morbidly obese. I read through the comments on here and expected the guy to look like Prince Fielder. There's gotta just be a ton of fatties on here that are ready to pounce on any opportunity to call someone else fat to make them feel better about themselves Or lanky toothpicks, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 He'd be a good pick at this point I'd think. Will Robertson seems to have some easy power. At some point we need to take Jake Sandford, tons of pop and comes from the same town as Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon so obviously destined for greatness. Good call, Sanford would be nice, too.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Good call, Sanford would be nice, too. Yeerrrr dumb
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Yeerrrr dumb I just logged in, was he selected? Edit: Yes, Yankees... Booo!

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 "You'll see me at the front-end of that rotation soon." - #Bluejays top pick Alek Manoah is confident in his own abilities.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 "You'll see me at the front-end of that rotation soon." - #Bluejays top pick Alek Manoah is confident in his own abilities. To be fair, if the Jays traded Stroman today, Manoah would be in the front of our rotation tomorrow.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 To be fair, if the Jays traded Stroman today, Manoah would be in the front of our rotation tomorrow. Yes please. Trade him to the Padres for a nice haul in that treasure of a farm system.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 To be fair, if the Jays traded Stroman today, Manoah would be in the front of our rotation tomorrow. This is true. But I still like that he thinks a lot of himself. He'll need to back it up of course. ...but on another note, players with that kind of confidence, you wouldn't think, would normally come in under slot.

He probably is already Better then Richards Or Foley and light years better then that Feirabender or Jackson the human pitching machine and batting practice pitching they gave us... now Sanchez old Blister Boy and broken Nail with meat hooks like the kid has you would have to believe with the extra cushion That will not be a issue for him. Stroman if this was survivor I am Taking the big Fat Kid lol too just whack em and Eat em Mmmm mmm Good And your new Ace he is !!!

Ray Verified Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 This is a guy who has trouble with control throwing to college level batters, so no. Command isn't as much of an issue with him as is the lack of a true third pitch.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Command isn't as much of an issue with him as is the lack of a true third pitch. Some scouting reports indicate his changeup flashes plus and had good tumbling action so there's some hope, he hasn't needed to use it much but the Jays seem optimistic about his chances sticking in the rotation. I really doubt a guy can dominate college baseball and become a golden spikes semi-finalist with just two working pitches, unless those two are absolutely filthy (65+ grade offerings). Div-I Big-12 is not a weak conference either. There's a reasonable amount of upside to Manoah despite being a college junior because he was mostly a bullpen arm the first two years, there's probably more room for development than your typical college 3 year SP.

He's basically been only fastball/slider this entire college season. And I'm suspecting the change up is actually further along than we think. Apparently he threw it a lot more in the Cape Cod, and he was completely dominant there.
