I'm starting to think so too. Shapiro hired Eric Wedge to manage the Indians. Now Atkins hires Montoyo. These guys for whatever reason seem to like the non sabermetric types.

But didn’t they say they wanted someone specifically to utilize sabermetrics? Its been pretty confusing how someone who worked for one of the most analytical franchises in Baseball could have a such old stock philosophies.

Montoyo seems more like placeholder rather than the long term manager anyway.

Someone in the AL West should trade for Drury to ruin the A’s in that matchup.

Look at his pitcher usage, when he makes changes, who he pinch hits and pinch runs for. The bunting is done by traditionally poor hitters. Maybe they have data that supports these decisions, has anyone actually considered that?

advanced systems. Not sabermetrics. Very different. In the end sacrificing and not sacrificing is about the difference between 10 runs a year only. It's probably a "don't care" about it if there are other things going on properly.

Best part of this game is that Sanchez is healthy and the breaking ball looks elite. The A's have no idea how to hit that nasty stuff.

I posted the numbers earlier, but the run expectancy after a 1st and 3rd bunt with none out changes very little.

Then you add in the possibility of a hit or error and the fact that Sogard is a replacement level hitter. Maybe it is the right play sometimes.

What to do with Sanchez and Stroman if they both are pitching well come July. We have to extend one of them, do we not?

Well yeah you need pitching..lots of it

This is probably the best I've seen out of Sanchez this season by a long shot. He's still had his couple of walks and times where the command falls off a cliff but the consistency of his fastball, specially up in the zone, and his breaking ball has been miles ahead every other start of his.

10 runs is the equivalent of 1 WAR right? That's a lot for a manager

Sanchez is pitching like dog s*** and getting stupid lucky right now.

Where do you come up with this stuff? I get that you hate him and always will, but he looks great. Lots of sink on the fastball and a nice tight curve that he is locating. He even used the changeup effectively a couple of times. He and Jansen are doing a nice job.

We don't have to.

No you could trade both of them. But if they are going to resign one it will be Stroman. Sanchez agent is Boras. And Stroman’s the way better bet to have continued success as insufferable as he is.

Also Stroman got that CN Tower tattoo.
