Need I remind you guys Gibby bunted in a tie game in game 5 of the 2015 ALDS with the 2015 Blue Jays Powerhouse team.. With 2015 MVP JD and good Jose Bautista and EE coming up... Did you all call Gibby an old school small ball, FO puppet then..? The situation made sense... As did it last night..

I have problem with the bunt attempt.

In a late tied game, if you runner on second, no out, you get the runner to 3rd base with a bunt, then your next batter will have a great chance to cash in a run with either a deep fly ball, a well-placed ground ball.

A good probability play in that particular situation, you just try to score 1 run.

Montoyo is probably just here to take a records beating for a couple years. And then we will replace him with somebody good in 2021. Hes got that good guy personally that will keep the players somewhat sane through these tough times.

Gibby 2021?!

God I hope so

I really hope he didn't call for the bunt and the player just did it himself. Walking Chris Davis who is one of the worst baseball players of all time is a huge head scratcher.

I think the term you're looking for is cannon fodder

A good rule of thumb is that guys who sign minor league deals and aren't good enough to crack your opening day roster probably aren't good enough to hit lead off either.

What exactly was he doing when he was in Tampa? Did nothing rub off on him?

Atkins is pulling the strings here methinks....

Eric Sogard is batting leadoff tonight. Lmao

I'd like to personally apologize to Montoya. The man is clearly a genius after Sogard's 3 hits and counting.

Don't you ever doubt the runner-up face of baseball again!

Being Evil as the Green Goblin is...

I See Atkins being Fired or Demoted

And Montoya taking his place

And then a New Manager bought in .

Sun shines on a dogs ass sometimes

If you check the weather report, you'll have a better shot at knowing when that is, thus increasing your chances of success.

Isn't Sogard's .309 career on base percentage like 3rd our of everybody who played yesterday. I believe only Tellez and Smoak had a higher career on base percentage. Of course I realize that power is a factor too.

Let's say they wrote a computer algorithm to make the line up based on career minor league stats and major league stats.

Sogard's career minor league on base percentage is .380 (1st out of everyone who played last night expect maybe Smoak)

Sogard's career major league on base percentage is .309 (3rd out of everyone who played last night I think)

Would the computer choose Sogard??

Alternatively maybe the front office just calls him and tells them they want a good look at one player or another and that's why Burito and Sogard have batted lead off occasionally.
