Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Actually, looks like he's got options, so new AAA CF, I'd guess.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Gotta love having a Socrates in the organization. As far as actual talent....???
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 How should I feel about this? You should feel that the Jays REALLY didn't like Rodrigo Orozco Edit: Who was just traded on his birthday.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Well, you guys said you wanted depth....
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Actually, looks like he's got options, so new AAA CF, I'd guess. That's exactly it, brosoff.
Ray Verified Member Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 How should I feel about this? Has options, so AAA OF when Alford comes up. The Dwight Smith Jr. trade seems a little odd in hindsight. I'd rather have him than some of these other guys like Brito and Hanson for AAA fodder.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 How should I feel about this? Good.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 How should I feel about this? It’s just AAA outfield depth to replace Alford.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Maybe Socrates here can change some of our player's hitting philosophies im sorry
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Maybe Socrates here can change some of our player's hitting philosophies im sorry Don't you apologize for this. This was excellent.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 One of those guys that does well in the minors but their parent organization just never really valued them or gave them an extended look. It's a nothing move but I kind of like it, Socrates Brito is an 80 grade name and he might not be a terrible depth outfielder if one of ours goes down with an injury or struggles with performance (Alford, Teoscar). He did very well at AAA last year. IMO he's better than Dwight Smith Jr.

I would have preferred to keep Smith Jr over Pompey at the time, but let’s be realistic - Smith Jr is very unlikely to ever be more than a 4th outfielder for a half decent team so it’s no great loss.

So today has been a good day because that would apply to Socrates, Hanson, and De Paula.

I haven't honestly looked at the numbers, but the eye test tells me that Smith Jr. would be a shite 4th OF. I didn't think he was good in LF, and ideally you want a 4th OF that can handle all 3 positions. Quickly looking at FG, his fielding numbers are pretty gross.
Ray Verified Member Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 Who knows, maybe he can be Max Muncy or Chris Taylor. He is coming off his best minor league season. On a side note, it's infuriating how the Dodgers can pluck these cast off guys off rosters and they somehow become 4 WAR contributors seemingly overnight.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Brito has no options. If Alford is coming up I wonder how long Brito will actually be here.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Interesting, last year Brito had the first season of his pro career with an ISO over .200 and unlike McKinney didn't elevate his K rate. He also upped his walk rate. Could be an interesting guy.
Ray Verified Member Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 So it looks like Brito and Hansen will report to the Jays, per Atkins. Alford already called up to replace Pillar. Urena and Sean-Reid Foley optioned to make room for Brito and Hansen?

Governator Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Brito and Hanson are garbage Mmmbop
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I've always liked Brito a little bit. He can run, used to be able to defend CF (not sure how he's aged), and has hit a bit in the high minors. HE might be a decent 4th OF.

He's injury prone, for those injuries now he can't run and catch the ball like in his early days.

Urena and Sean-Reid Foley optioned to make room for Brito and Hansen? There isn't room for Brito and Hanson on the 40-man. Someone has to be removed or added to the 60-day IL if both are being added. Edit: Pompey added to the 60-day DL
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Brito here to sit on the bench so McKinney can get everyday at-bats for a bit. I'm fine with it I suppose. Would prefer Alford just come up and play CF though.

That makes no sense then. If Brito has to be DFA to be sent to AAA what if someone claims him (last year's wRC+ of 26 must be tempting haha)? Surely we could have got someone on a minor league deal, there is no point in moving Pillar if Alford doesn't take his spot.
