Pompey is going to make the team. Never thought that would happen.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that with both Travis and Gurriel getting outfield reps. Still a good chance Pompey is dfa and he’s not a lock to be claimed by another team so could end up at AAA.

It’s not like Shatkins to let an asset, not matter how marginal, go for nothing. If he’s made it this far and now Grichuk not 100%, I think he’s in.

Pompey would definitely get picked up. Not sure how Gurriel will perform in the outfield but Travis is not a better option than Pompey in every aspect. Travis will be the player who most likely gets DFA'd this season if he has an underwhelming first half.

Disagree on Pompey definitely getting claimed, and Travis has options.

Maybe, I do think he’ll get a fair chance in spring training.

Unless he just shits the bed this spring, I would give Pompey a chance. Even if everyone is healthy I'd still have him break with the big league team by optioning one of McKinney, Teoscar or Travis.

There will be a team who will have use for his OBP/running skill set alone, and he's not a defensive liability.

IMO not much point. Smith Jr can be a future 4th outfielder option with speed, and he has options.

You never know though, Pompey could do something and there’s no real harm trying it.

Smith Jr. has poor foot speed. He's slower than the average major leaguer. Pompey is a lot faster and can play CF. Pompey isn't a world beater but if he makes it to the upper 1/3 of his projections or so he's a viable major leaguer. I'd like to see them give him a shot.

I wish we could find a taker for Pillar. I read that the Giants had interest earlier this offseason and they could really use him. Their OF is pathetic.

You'll notice he assumed that Smith is fast because he's black lol. That's racist!

Devo has an option, they won't dump him.

Great!

So basically the complete opposite of the title of this thread.

Good work media! At least we know he can still hit with bum feet.

Lotta balls gonna drop in the outfield.

I didn't realize McKinney was a poor fielder. Was he always rated as a poor defender in the minors?

McKinney’s batted ball profile shifted dramatically after the Yankees acquired him from the Cubs in the Aroldis Chapman deal. Since high school, he had been a feel-for-contact corner guy with batting practice power that didn’t manifest in games, but the Yankees got his ground ball rate down from 42% to 30% and he started to mash before they flipped him to Toronto for JA Happ. He hit for power in a prolonged big league look but struggled badly against breaking stuff, something that may be an issue moving forward. McKinney doesn’t have a whole lot of offensive wiggle room because he’s so limited on defense, but the hit/power combo suggests he is a Seth Smith-like corner platoon bat who’s ready right now.
