Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Is Pentecost still around? Is he even a consideration anymore to catch? We should only be so lucky that the team has so much depth behind the plate that he doesn't even cross my mind anymore even after this trade. This has been about as good as catcher depth the Jays have had since November 2012.
Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Sad to see Russ go but happy he's being sent to a contender. He gave us some great memories. My fav would have to be him praying after Bautista's ALDS homer.

Next offseason is going to be amazing. Studly young core of Vlad, Jansen, and Bo. 40-man loaded with talent, and one of the deepest systems in the majors feeding into it. And I think like literally $0 committed to anyone except Lourdes Gurriel.

But yes, a ridiculously low committed payroll, enough to make some major splashes and put some all-star MLB talent around Vlad/Bo/Jansen.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Makes sense to me to retain him and have McGuire be the starting C at Buffalo. 100%, this is a no brainer to me. But if a team wants Maile, and that is very possible, we flip him for more prospects. Meanwhile, McGuire plays full time in AAA. This trade result was better than I thought possible. Very pleased. For us and Martin.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I bought a Martin jersey so bittersweet for me but it had to be done. This team is going to f***ing awful next season though. And Jansen better be the full time catcher not splitting time with Luke Maile or something. I think it is a bad assumption that we will be awful. If Stroman and Sanchez get back to their potential and we get decent innings from Richard and Shoemaker we could be an average or even a game or two above if Vladito, Bo, and Jansen get a lot of playing time and excel from the get go.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Do the Dodgers expect Martin to play 110 games behind the plate?? I heard they were still pursuing Realmuto so it doesn't seem like they have anything but back up expectations from him.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Just had my 10 year old do a Calgary baseball camp last weekend with Danny Jansen. Nice guy. Was only 5 kids there. Said Martin has been fine but Maile has been more of a mentor when it comes to teaching him. Was pretty candid about it all. I like Martin, and he gave some solid seasons when we needed it. I'll never for that 3 run coup de grace bomb down the stretch against the Yankees in 2015, but nice to see Martin and Tulo moved along. I suck with the computer but found the French call of that big home run Sept 23rd 2015 against the Yanks...that was awesome. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=sept+23+martin+home+run+2015&view=detail&mid=7D20F387C1FA8CFE2F7C7D20F387C1FA8CFE2F7C&FORM=VIRE

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I remember a lot of people s***ing on the idea of trading Martin +15M for a couple low-ranked prospects a month or two ago. Most of the forum IIRC.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Kendrys definitely needs to be the next sunk cost causality. Just pay all his salary and get some low minor C prospect. That will allow them to use DH to rest players throughout the year. And yeah I was arguing for trading Martin months ago and remember a lot of opposition to that from this forum. Wonder what changed.

No, Gurribabip needs to learn to walk if he wants any sort of mlb career, Morales will be his Yoda and teach him teh ways.

You know when you see someone making an idiot out of themselves and you blush over it because they are so awkward it for some reason makes you embarrassed? That's how I feel every time you try to make "Gurribabip" a thing.
