Welp... Lindor sprains his ankle, that suxxxxxxx

By Mandy Bell @MandyBell02

2:19 PM EDT

CLEVELAND -- Francisco Lindor can’t catch a break this spring. Just when his return to the Tribe started to come into sight, it looks like he’ll likely have to be out even longer.

The Indians announced Wednesday afternoon that their All-Star shortstop sustained an acute left ankle sprain while running the bases during a Minor League intrasquad game against Double-A Akron on Tuesday. He underwent an MRI later that night, which revealed the mild to moderate left ankle sprain. His timeframe for return is to be determined.

The 25-year-old has been rehabbing since Feb. 6, when he was diagnosed with a moderate right calf strain. Toward the end of Spring Training, Indians manager Terry Francona and the team’s training staff worked together to determine whether Lindor would be able to break camp with the Tribe. Although Lindor thought he was ready, the club decided to play it safe and have him start the year on the injured list and remain in Goodyear, Ariz., for the time being.

The Indians were optimistic that Lindor would return on April 4, which was the earliest date he’d be eligible to come off the injured list. But now, that date will need to be pushed back. Eric Stamets will continue to play shortstop in Lindor’s absence, and Brad Miller will play second base until Jason Kipnis (mild calf strain) is able to get back into Major League game activity.

The Indians also announced on Wednesday that Hanley Ramirez will make the 25-man roster.

Indians are so f***ed

Not necessarily, unless he and Jose Ramirez don't come back at full strength. They project about 10 wins total or roughly 8 WAR above the next closest team in their division, the Twins. If they lose both for half the season the division is bad enough that they can still stand atop the AL Central or be a few games back from first, and they can always panic trade a starter or prospect for a decent interim replacement. The bottom 3 teams in that division are dumpster fires, the Twins are the only ones that can really bother them and they don't quite have the high-end/high ceiling talent to completely pull away while Cleveland is down in the dumps.

After Cleveland spent the offseason cutting payroll I think they are itching to go into rebuild mode. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them cash in their pitchers this year.

They're lucky they play in the AL Central. The Twins are really their only threat.

They have the pitching to hold their own in that division.

Disappointing offseason for them though. They really should have tried to add an above-average outfielder this offseason after losing Brantley.

If they aren't close to a playoff spot come June, then I could see them shopping Kluber, Bauer and Carrasco at the deadline.

The Indians are pathetic. They have a rotation with three aces and two #2s, a superelite closer, and two of the 10 best position players in baseball, and they basically punted the offseason and seem headed towards a rebuild. The Dolans shouldn’t own a team.

You don't want to see position players getting hurt though. Because right now they're banking on their SPs staying healthy and that just seems unlikely.

Kluber, Carrasco and Bauer have had a good track record at staying healthy for the most part. I'm not too worried. Even if they lose one of them for an extended period of time, they still have enough to hold their own.

Indians fans should be protesting outside Progressive Field. The chances of them having that type of rotation, alongside with Top-10 players like Lindor and Ramirez will never happen again. Cleveland is blowing such a golden opportunity.

Cleveland will still win the Central. That division is s***.

Agreed. Still a waste though since I don't see them beating the Astros or Yankees in an ALDS.

When you could win your division with 86 wins, why bother trying for 95?

I guess getting spanked by the Astros or Yankees in the ALDS is alright with that front office.

Their off season was so puzzling

Treading water as the best team in the worst division

They're already shopping them, lol.

15. City you most enjoy visiting on road trips?

Top result: Chicago (23.7%)

Runners-up: Seattle (18.9%), San Diego (16%), New York (7.1%)

Also receiving multiple votes: Boston, San Francisco, Toronto, Denver, Miami, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Pittsburgh

In their own words:

On Seattle:

“I can’t even explain why, there’s just something about Seattle that I love.”

On Toronto:

“Most diverse city in the world, over 200 cultures represented and very friendly.”

16. City you least enjoy visiting on road trips?

Top result: Cincinnati (21%)

Runners-up: Oakland (17.2%), New York (12.7%), Cleveland (7.6%), Detroit (7.6%)

Also receiving multiple votes: Tampa Bay, Milwaukee, San Francisco, Kansas City, Miami, Denver, Anaheim, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles

In their own words:

On Kansas City:

Also receiving multiple votes: Indianapolis, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Austin, San Antonio, Santo Domingo, Vancouver

In their own words:

On Montreal:

“It would be sick, bringing baseball back there. Canada is sick.”“I think adding another Canadian team would be good for baseball. I know when baseball went back to Montreal a few years ago, the reception was very good. I’d think the fan base there would support baseball better this time around and give the Jays a good, natural rival.”

Notes: Also receiving one vote: Australia, which is not a city.

Australia??????? 2 major problems that I see

1 June, July August are the coldest month of the year in Aussie country it's their winter season with temp hovering in the high single digits and the low teens isn't the ideal condition for playing baseball. Their largest indoor venue has an only 18,000 seating capacity.

2 The flights to Australia are 23 hrs long man depending when a team would leave which can often be an evening flight which could lead a team being 3 day in between flight and game day.

Other than exhibitions games the MLB wouldn't go for this especially with the travel time and cost.
