Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 I think we were talking about Russo lol. And I personally separate all those entities so I can direct my apathy in more accurate directions. Blue Jays belong to the people. A glorious institution bestowed upon the people of Toronto. Funded by the hard-working people who pay money for tickets, merchandise and concessions. Rogers is just the caretaker right now. The Blue Jays existed before Rogers and will exist after. I don't see anything good about Rogers. They do the bare minimum. All of it for their own benefit with no consideration outside that. If this was a European football club, there's probably a >50% chance there would be protests outside their headquarters. Shapiro is clearly good. There's really no logical argument against his philosophy. But Rogers was lucky to land on Shapiro because they went so far as to tamper with Kenny Williams. So clearly Rogers is retarded. Atkins is meh so far in how he implements Shapiro's foolproof strategy. He's a classic poker nit who just plays the probabilities on every hand and expects to win over thousands of hands. I sometimes wonder if a psycho like DiPoto isn't more effective in the aggregate just by hitting homers (Kelenic, Dunn). I assumed it was Russo, lol.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Lindblom to the Brewers, 3 years $9M How could we not outbid that?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Josh Lindblom to the Brewers, Passan reporting 3/9.1 which seems like a really solid deal for them.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Blake Treinen to the Dodgers, 1 year $10M That is a shitload of money for a reliever who was non-tendered this offseason.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 That is a shitload of money for a reliever who was non-tendered this offseason. He's also 1 year removed from being the best reliever in baseball... Risk/Reward. Wish we were in on him
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 He's also 1 year removed from being the best reliever in baseball... Risk/Reward. Wish we were in on him For sure. This is a very Dodgers type of move to make, since they can both afford the risk and profit massively from the potential that he's back to being good.

So the Blue Jays were intrigued by Lindblom's spin rates or whatever and couldn't pony up a 3-year deal at slightly more than Brandon Drury money? Pretty disappointing given that we're being priced out of the market for a bunch of other starters.

You could make that same case for the Angels, Twins, Braves, and other teams that need pitching too. Feels like most teams could've outbid the $9M guaranteed figure he got. Also a possibility he demanded $12M-$15M to come to Canada, and at that point we just said f*** it and allocated that money to Roark who's been a solid 2 WAR pitcher over an unproven commodity in Lindblom.

jerb Verified Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Jon Heyman @JonHeyman Rick Porcello has a 3-year offer but inclination seems to be to fo a 1-year deal and reset. Very dependable pitcher. Has qualified for 11 straight era titles (162 plus innings)

Very dependable pitcher. Has qualified for 11 straight era titles (162 plus innings) I really believe that the 26th man addition renders what Porcello has become, virtually useless, it will take a year or two to see that. I think he should take the 3 year deal and plan for his 2023 retirement. I'd love to know where he thinks he can play to renew his value.

Pretty disappointing given that we're being priced out of the market for a bunch of other starters. Definitely disappointing if we really were interested in him. We're getting tagged as being interested in just about everyone though, so it's entirely possible our interest was completely fabricated.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Rendon to the Angels I like it. Hopefully they add Ryu too. I want to see that team contend.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Rendon to the Angels Kick in the nuts to the Nationals who gave the same contract to an older, riskier, pitchier player. Boras finessed them.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Happy for Trout to have some almost peer talent around
Ray Verified Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 It’d be a fun exercise to calculate how much commission Scott Boras has made this offseason for himself. He’s at $814M in guaranteed contracts between Cole, Strasburg, and Rendon with Ryu, Keuchel, and Castellanos still left to go. Does he get to $1 billion???
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I like it. Hopefully they add Ryu too. I want to see that team contend. If the Angels don't get Ryu or Keuchel their offseason would be a horrible failure. The FO better not call it a day by acquiring Bundy and some average starter from FA.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Why does this tweet sound so condescending? How many guys with $200+ million dollar contracts don't have at least massive partial no-trade clauses?

The FO better not call it a day by acquiring Bundy and some average starter from FA. Yup. They're all in now with Trout and Rendon locked up to mega deals. The rotation actually has some upside with Heaney, Ohtani, and Canning, but they need one more good SP.

Ray Verified Member Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Nationals should definitely sign Donaldson.
