Atkins said that the Jays don’t feel fully committed to any starters other than Chase Anderson for 2020. Listened a podcast today about how baseball can make the winter meetings more interesting. Why don't they just make it a signing dark period from end of the World Series until this Sunday. Other ideas discussed were signings that happen during the meetings get a small 1 year discount from the luxury tax calculation (which I hate cause it just benefits a few teams). Anyway Monday should have some activity. Anyone from the board heading to San Diego this year?

Other ideas discussed were signings that happen during the meetings get a small 1 year discount from the luxury tax calculation (which I hate cause it just benefits a few teams). Anyway Monday should have some activity. Anyone from the board heading to San Diego this year?

 

Maybe they could allow teams to take that 1 year discount at any year during the contract. That would make the player an incredibly valuable trade chip later in the contract.

I don’t really consider Pineda a big miss. He was good in 2019, but the fastball velo is down several ticks, and he’s fat now and had knee, and I think minor arm issues last year. He’s also out until mid-May. I wouldn’t have minded him at 2/20, but I don’t think it’s a steal or anything.
