Seems like the Pirates are down to two people for their GM position: Ben Cherington and Matt Arnold.

 

I really hope Cherington ends up staying. It won't be a disaster to lose him or anything, but a lot of Red Sox fans were attributing their 2016-2018 success partly because of the foundation he set. Hard to pin down exactly what he's done/did for us so far, but more smart people in the front office is always good.

Yep. Exactly. I have zero issue with teams picking up on a pitcher tipping pitches or relaying signs from second. There's really no difference in cheating between the catcher sending signs to the pitcher and a player on the field decoding them and sending them to the batter. Doing it with technology during the game though, that's a definite no. MLB needs to get their act together and figure out a way to stop it, as well as dramatically increase the penalties associated with doing so.

Yeah, I thought so too. IIRC he signed last offseason for a 2M guarantee then maxed out another 8M of IP incentives. Thought he'd get around 8 guaranteed this year, especially after holding up for like 3 great starts in the playoffs.

Is tipping pitches intentional? No, obviously not. Not tipping pitches is a requirement to be a good pitcher. Is relaying pitch selection to a pitcher intentional because there's no one on second to steal signs? Yes, there's an assumption it's safe because there shouldn't be anyone there to see what they're doing.

 

That you can't tell the difference between noticing trends and using technology to cheat is pretty amazing, imo.
