Felipe Vazquez (Felipe Rivera) changed his name in honor of his sister Priscila Vazquez. Felipe's mother says he doesn't know Priscilla, he never heard from her. It's said that Priscilla is Felipe's witchcraft and mysticism teacher. They aren't brothers.

 

In Spanish the word is santero. Felipe is a devilish santero with thousands of fetishes. It is common in many people in Venezuela.

 

He's like Pedro Cerrano. Priscilla is his spiritual guide

 

I'm confused by this. Is his mother saying that she doesn't have a daughter (named Priscilla)?

 

You're suggesting Priscilla is some spiritual guide that Felipe has made up and she isn't actually a reason person?

His turnaround this year has been pretty remarkable. Dude legitimately had the yips for two solid months and at 33, with his injury history, it looked like he might be cooked. Now his season xFIP is under 3.50.

 

I dumped him in the DDL for Justin Smoak!!!

Here's a good article from Fangraphs/THT on teams outperforming their projections since 2015 (both hitting via wOBA and pitching via SIERA).

 

Surprise: The Astros outperformed them all!

 

Actual Surprise: Jays rank 3rd in outperforming their projections.

 

How could the Jays have outperformed their projections?? I'm pretty sure they were projected to win low 80s in 2017 and 2018, and mid 70s this year, and are missing by about 5-10 games a year....

2017 - Jays projected for 84.7

2018 - Jays projected for 85

2019 - Jays projected for 75

 

So they basicly underperformed by 30 games but are the 3rd best over performer??

Depends which projection system you're using. The article used Steamer.

Oh wow...

 

Bob Klapisch of the New York Times hears that Domingo German allegedly slapped his girlfriend during an argument late Monday night.

Klapisch further states that the incident happened "in a public setting" and was "witnessed by an official from the Commissioner’s Office." German has been placed on administrative leave as Major League Baseball's Department of Investigations looks into the matter. No police report has been filed, but the right-hander could very well be facing a lengthy suspension, one that might rule him out for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

Odor punching Bautista in the face on TV with thousands of witnesses will get fewer games than German.

 

Of course there could be more to this so I'll reserve full judgment. Still a stupid move by German either way.
