Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 What's the cost/WAR these days? Like $3.5M per WAR? Good god that s*** dropped like the 2008 stock market.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I wonder if that's still on the table? I haven't heard that it was taken off. That specific deal is off, I can see him going back to the Nats but now they have the leverage and he's not going to see that deal again.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Damn, that's freaking awesome. If only MLB could get their camera in at that angle for regular season games......

I might be laughing too hard at this, but the twitterverse is relentless. https://sports.yahoo.com/yoenis-cespedes-shows-spring-training-190841655.html Also, the author's a meathead, Cespedes had his 2nd heel surgery well after the first one?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Severino signs four year deal with Yanks with a 5th year option. Might as well try an extension for Stro at this point. It will be cheap as hell.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Angels are reportedly interested in Moustakas and the Phillies have also shown interest. He'd be a nice fit for either team and he's likely available on a short term deal worth <$10M. What an amazing time to be a contending team.

justafan Verified Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Good. I want ridiculous contracts to be a thing of the past. If MLB can't get a salary cap built into the CBA then at least it looks like the owners are trying to police themselves. Whether the players cry collusion I don't know...but I'm fine with Harper and Machado being made to sweat it out a bit. I totally agree. Its not the players who are hyping the contracts, its the media.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Serverino must have a really bad agent cause he should be getting paid much more than this. Why would he even agree to a 2023 club option at $15MM?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 It's going to be so underwhelming when Bryce Harper goes back to Washington on a Stanton level contract
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 The Texas Rangers have signed slap hitting, lead off man extraordinaire Ben Revere. John Havok just ran the numbers and he now has the Rangers at 95 wins and 5-1 odds to make the World Series!

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Where'd that come from, is what I mean? Havok wouldn't say that. Havok was the guy most adamantly against Revere's worth and my arch nemeses in the Billy McKinney thread. He is the most unlikely guy/least likely guy (as in never) to put that, hence it is sarcasm.. It wouldn't work as well if I put just any old poster..

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 M stands for Milwaukee and Moooose.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Moustakas back to Milwaukee. 1/9 seems to be the terms.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Moustakas back to Milwaukee. 1/9 seems to be the terms. 1/10. Really not a bad deal for him.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 1/10. Really not a bad deal for him. not bad for him as in he should be happy? This really goes to show you the market value for a WAR. Guys been a 2+ WAR player basically any time he is healthy, is only 31 this season and only get $10M. I really thought the $/WAR would pretty much continually go up. Guess I was wrong.

I guess I mean not bad in the context of the current climate. Nobody is commiting longterm to league-average corner bats in their 30s because at the first sign of decline, anywhere in their game, they’re no longer full-time players. Guys like Moose will have to maintain their skills into their 30s and earn their living a year at a time. If Moose maintains his skills, he makes his 40-50M from 2019 to 2022.

I could see a $10M yearly average on a longer deal with the above considered. When you anticipate he could fall of the cliff later in the deal. Guy projects for 2.7 WAR next year which seems totally reasonable, and he seems way underpaid.
