Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Author Posted March 19, 2019 They seem to want to keep Morales around for his presents, but they might as well make him a bench guy and go with Hernandez at DH while platooning McKinney and Pompey in left. At least the right players will be getting AB's. We really don't need to see Morales playing everyday. Pretty pointless having a DH on the bench. Though there is more chance he’s dfa late in the season. Suspect ownership wouldn’t sanction Tulo, Martin and Morales write offs all at the same time.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Who is your pick for "surprise/underdog" player of the year? I ask because I think Drury has a chance to have a really good bounceback year.

He won't have any value besides being a pinch hitter and occasional DH/1B, but at least in a back up role he would be able to provide whatever vetrin presents the team seems to think he can give while letting the younger guys get the PT. Pompey is probably s***, but I'd still prefer to roster him over Morales.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 For sure. My driving skills have improved from playing Need for Speed I run over at least 3 hookers every day driving to and from work
Maico450 Verified Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Move Pillar Yeh, trade Pillar for whatever and DFA Morales would both solve some roster problems. We have young replacements for both of these players.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I'm sure Shatkins fielded offers for Pillar but they just didn't get anything worthwhile. He's a perfectly acceptable starting CF with two years of control left. We can't just give him away, especially just so we can clear a spot for Pompey. And I say this as someone who has been on Pompey's nuts all spring.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I'm sure Shatkins fielded offers for Pillar but they just didn't get anything worthwhile. He's a very mediocre below average starting CF with two years of control left. We shouldn't just give him away, especially just so we can clear a spot for Pompey. Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 ftfy 2 WAR players don't grow on trees, Jimbo.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 2 WAR players don't grow on trees, Jimbo. And you certainly don't give them away on the cheap.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 2 WAR players don't grow on trees, Jimbo. mediocre and below average describes Pillar perfectly this is like last offseason debate all over again, except its Pillar instead of Donaldson
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 mediocre and below average describes Pillar perfectly So what's Justin Smoak then? He was worse than Pillar last year and is projected to put up less WAR than Pillar by both Zips and Steamer this year. If Pillar is below average then Smoak must suck?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 So what's Justin Smoak then? Jim doesn't know how to value, bruh! He's nostradamus and dumn, it's a catch 22, lol.

Smoak has 12th highest WAR total among 1B last year.... Pillar had 17th highest among CF edit - qualified players. Reduce to 0 PA and there were 21 CF with a higher WAR than Pillar, and 15 1B with a higher WAR than Smoak.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 mediocre and below average describes Pillar perfectly this is like last offseason debate all over again, except its Pillar instead of Donaldson So Pillar's going to be injured most of the season? JD is finished?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 So Pillar's going to be injured most of the season? JD is finished? No, Pillar is going to continue to decline in the field and at the plate always better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 No, Pillar is going to continue to decline in the field and at the plate always better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late You legit think they're not fielding offers, lol???
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 You legit think they're not fielding offers, lol??? Did I say that?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Did I say that? So what are you implying then? I'm pretty sure the Birds been trying to move him since last July?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 So what are you implying then? Trade Pillar for the best available offer. Because he will be worth less as time goes on
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Trade Pillar for the best available offer. Because he will be worth less as time goes on Which is likely hot garbage, as Term and I've said, you don't hand him away. The only team tied to him was SF, a long time ago. Mind you, they really need the help.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Which is likely hot garbage, as Term and I've said, you don't hand him away. Whatever you can get in IFA money or whatever, better than the nothing he will be worth a year from now
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Whatever you can get in IFA money or whatever, better than the nothing he will be worth a year from now Easier said than done.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 So CF's are, slim... Center Fielders Austin Jackson (32) Denard Span (35) Chris Young (35) A team can take a shot on them for peanuts... or go the trade route... Any chance we move Pillar would be injury... and a reasonable return, period.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Whatever you can get in IFA money or whatever, better than the nothing he will be worth a year from now Geezus Jim, that's what we got for a turd like Dwight Smith Jr.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Geezus Jim, that's what we got for a turd like Dwight Smith Jr. lol... True.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Geezus Jim, that's what we got for a turd like Dwight Smith Jr. Gotta figure Pillar would return more IFA than a turd Better than non-tendering him after this season and getting nothing
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Gotta figure Pillar would return more IFA than a turd Better than non-tendering him after this season and getting nothing Why would they non tender him? Jim, this is getting comedic, if it already hasn't been. Edit: Go to bed, gather yourself, and try again.
King Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Tepera and Axford are both experiencing elbow pain and are being examined.

Edit: Go to bed, gather yourself, and try again. He won't be worth the cost Seems no one wants him at his current $5M price, why would Jay's want him at his Arb4 price
