Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Just 5 more years for Cooperstown His agent should be a shoo-in
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 His agent should be a shoo-in Lol you're acting as if he got the Chris Davis deal and it was apparent at the time. In the offseason of 2010 when this deal was signed, Romero was a 26 year old workhorse starter whose two first seasons were worth 2.3 and 3.7 wins. The 5/30 that he got was considered to be a team friendly deal at the time, his knees just unfortunately derailed his career, and I don't think it's fair to praise his agent for being a genius or the acting FO to be stupid for offering the extension. It was a relatively low risk potentially high reward deal that went as bad as it could have. It's basically the Bautista deal except it went in the complete opposite direction, for an obviously less talented player and half the money.

It didn't really f*** as that bad and seemed like a good idea at the time. I just think his agent did an excellent job for him. We're talking never have to work again, generational money. There's definitely more lucrative mistakes but those are usually done via overspending in FA. I'm sure there are better examples but I can't think of a young player signing extension like this and it working out so well for that player. Jon Singleton would be another one.

I remember thinking it was a steal and wished it was longer. It was not a bad contract. Nothing is guaranteed in baseball. Who knew that he would Billy Koch it, by that I mean fall off a cliff.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) This went to the 2018 thread in error He has his Masters in Health, Excercise, and Sports Science. Was a good pitcher with Pacific U before his Tommy John. Decided to go into coaching rather than try and rehab it for playing. Young (just 27), should relate well to the pitchers, has had his career ended by injury and believes in alternative training methods. Great hire. Get him on the podcast https://pitchingperformance.wordpress.com/blog/ Edited January 8, 2019 by TheHurl
