Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Bit odd but he's alright I guess, I can't imagine we gave up anything of significance for him. Is he guaranteed a 40-man spot since we traded for him after he was DFA'd?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Why....? Gm is Dumn !!! And The CEO is Cheap ! Ownership likes it that way too ! That may be the Why to it !
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Well, the team isn't likely going to be any good in 2019 and lots of people have already acknowledged that. I'm not really sure why anyone is expecting more than warm bodies to fill rotation spots at this point.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Connor Panas going to the Padres. Jays have to dump someone from the 40 too. Probably Drake.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Increase the likelihood of trading Stroman or is it too fringey to fill a spot?
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Why....? Because they are rebuilding and need warm bodies?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Was this really the best we could do for a dirt cheap innings eater? Would prefer a bounceback candidate who has a chance to be traded for something, rather than a DFA in waiting. Following a rebuilding team sucks!
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Should I fly WestJet or Air Canada from Calgary to Toronto? I'm just wondering so that I can book well in advance to be present for the championship parade. Thoughts?

Would prefer a bounceback candidate who has a chance to be traded for something, rather than a DFA in waiting. Following a rebuilding team sucks! Shatkins doesn't want to trade prospects, and pitchers looking to increase their value won't sign with the Jays to play at RC/face the AL East on repeat, so I'm not even sure what the alternative would be. Shoemaker is basically this year's Garcia. Richard seems like a warm body who can eat up (s*****) innings or pitch out of the pen. The trade itself is meaningless (unless this impacts your maple boner) but I'd rather have practically everyone currently on the 40 man roster over him so not a fan from that aspect. Edit: Forgot Drake is there. Easy decision. Richard over Drake is fine.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Hes here for one reason. To eat 180-200 innings.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Warm Bodies they Have ! And why Trade ! We have a Top 5-10 minor league System and if we wanted bodies ... Bartolo Colon clay Bucholz, Edwin Jackson, Randall Delgado , Derek Holland,Hector Santiago Wade Miley all made less last year And in the 3-5.5 you had Francisco liriano Brett Anderson , Shelby Miller and David Phelps ! More useless crap on a alrighty useless pile of Crap ! Lol Like Really We have Better options then a trade on our 40 man then this dude ! Yikes

Well the alternative would be any of the remaining free agent starting pitchers who aren't expected to have many offers (and so are unlikely to turn down an opportunity to be in a MLB rotation) - including most who IMO are on paper better than a 35 year old who has virtually zero potential trade value. I'm not complaining that he isn't cheap (the cost is negligible), I'm complaining that he's absolute wank.

Under $150 per flight
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 I agree. We should have signed or traded for a guy that costs nothing that we could later trade for sexy prospects because the Jays are like 20 times smarter than every other team on earth.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Richards can make starts to reduce the innings that guys like SRF, Gaviglio, Thornton, Pannone, Pearson etc would have to make, without him. It takes 10+ SP to get through a season, so having a 3 mill Veteran there to make 30 starts, takes the clock time off the kids. Wins this year are irrelevant. Its all about easing the kids in and limiting the service time.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 Jays also getting cash considerations. This is a game changer.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Well, trading for him is one way to test the young kids defensively. At least we don't have real grass, so the worms should be safe.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 If Connor Panas can get this guy maybe Dalton Pompey actually does have some value.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Hes here for one reason. To eat 180-200 innings. And to allow the freedom of making another trade
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Drake going for the DFA record
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 wait this guy doesn't even make league min? lol
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Now let's trade Stroman to them for Baez and Allen.
