bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Don’t care. Get a life. My bet is you have a lot going on for yourself. the fact that you're getting so defensive is hilarious
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 A story about JD being a dick wouldn’t be all that surprising let’s be honest lol. Anyways dont know what went behind the scenes but it says something when grandy releases a statement (or anything)before JD.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2018 Author Posted September 2, 2018 I don’t understand why people are so incredulous at a story about JD acting like a douche.
Todd Van Anus Verified Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 I don’t understand why people are so incredulous at a story about JD acting like a douche. We all assume JD is a jerk. It's just THAT story is clearly made up or a massive exaggeration. Go read it again! lol
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 I once ran into josh Donaldson and I mean literally. He had a smoke show on his arm and was strutting like a bull down the street, chest out, literally high stepping through people. I mean everyone, women, kids, me. He pushed his way through me and I got pinned against mailbox as he shouldered his way through me. Plenty of room on the sidewalk. He went out of his way to do it. I called him an *******, he spun around raised his arm pointing at me like a threat. I told him he was a f***ing ******* and smiled at his chick and stared him down. He’s jacked and could have rag dolled me easily. I’ve never seen someone act like the stereotypical, jock frat boy from a thousand lame movies before. True story— dude is a world class douch. Well maybe next time you won't walk on his sidewalk. That is Josh's sidewalk not yours. Walk on the grass. f***ing Beta.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 I don’t understand why people are so incredulous at a story about JD acting like a douche. It reads like a reddit copy/paste, and he's super defensive about it for whatever reason. It's pretty clear most if not all of that is made up. It's not the Josh is a douche part that's hard to believe, it's the whole story itself.

Well to be honest that mostly says that Granderson is a total class act, confirming everything we've seen from him this year.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 I can't see Merryweather being the return, based on Atkins description. He may not even pitch until half way through 2019 and even then he's certainly nothing close to an impact player. He's the type of guy that you pick up on waivers in ST and try in the bullpen. I think it's someone that they are using or may use on the 25 man roster before the end of the season.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 He's the type of guy that you pick up on waivers in ST and try in the bullpen. Why, because of his age? His results have been very good. Also he apparently revamped his delivery in 2016, and is now sitting mid 90s with the ability to reach back for more, average or better secondary stuff. Knocks against him seem to be a fastball that lacks life.

Knocks against him seem to be a fastball that lacks life. Age, injury situation, and mediocre results. There are some positives if you squint hard enough, but a 4.75 FIP doesn't exactly scream impact player. We see guys like this sign minor league deals with ST invites every year. Sam Gaviglio, for example, was a similar age and had better results.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 You expect him to maintain a 15% HR/FB despite it being easily the highest of his entire career? I never said that.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 I never said that. Well, being the smart guy you are, you'd be well aware of the particular thing that is ballooning the FIP you've cited.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Well, being the smart guy you are, you'd be well aware of the particular thing that is ballooning the FIP you've cited. Look, you can twist the stats any way you wish and make different conclusions. The fact is, he was a below average player that averaged less than 5 innings per start in a pitcher's league. He'll also be out much of the season with Tommy John surgery. This isn't at all the player that Atkins described. I have my doubts that he would even maintain a spot on Cleveland's 40 man. We see better players pass through waivers now and then.

Steamer projects him as a sub 4 FIP in the majors right now (assuming he was able). The BAT (for whatever it's worth) projects him mid 3.5's.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 My best seeing Josh Donaldson IRL moment was at the Innisbrook Golf club at Palm Harbour in 2016 for the Celeb Pro am. He drove the ball probably 350 yards off the tee then threw his club in the air bat flip style smacked his chest and said "Gimme some of dat, Lets Go". He was playing with Graham Delaet and all he did was laugh. He even stood around and signed autographs for everyone afterwards. Another great moment was in Spring Training this year during BP when no hardly any fans were in the stadium and after he hit a HR he yelled "You can putttt it on the boarddddddd, YES" Not sure I've seen someone with as much confidence as him lol.

The BAT (for whatever it's worth) projects him mid 3.5's. That seems extremely unlikely as he recovers from TJS, but we'll see. If he gets back to full strength by 2020 then he could be a useful long reliever. Predicting anything more that that would be pretty outrageous at this point.

Atkins also said this... "We're at the point now where our position player talent is very, very strong, and it would be hard to really upgrade." He may very well believe that Merryweather will be impactful next season.

I'm not twisting anything. You cited FIP as to why he isn't very good. You could have seen his 15% HR/FB and gone with xFIP (which is under 4) but you didn't. If anyone is twisting anything, it's you.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 That's a scary thought I'm not sure of the context of that statement. Maybe he just meant they have a tonne of depth at every position, and while, it's not that hard to add more players like they have, it's hard to go to the next level. Outfield they'd have to upgrade on Randal Grichuk/Mckinney/Pillar, third base Vlad, short stop Bo/Diaz, second base Gurriel/Biggio, 1st base Smoak/Morales/Tellez, Catcher Jansen/Martin Of course you can upgrade a fair bit (with the exception of Vlad, and Bo if he develops like we hope), but your looking at a more significant free agent, or a 3-1 prospect for established player type swap. Or maybe he's out there and thinks all these players are awesome.
Todd Van Anus Verified Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Merryweather projects as a mid-rotation starter. That's a good return for JD considering the circumstances.

Way far and above the possible value of a comp pick, especially because he'll be ready for action in the very near future. I dare say, we could be looking at a WC team next year.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 highly unlikely Really? The current WC teams are the Yankees and A's. Are you saying there's no way we can be better than the A's or Mariners with Vlad and some key acquisitions? Oh right, you won't be happy until literally everyone older than 21 is dealt for some reason.

It's simply not a realistic thought at this point.

The Blue Jays aren't the only team who will be bringing up a prospect or two next year, fyi. Right now, they are 19 games back of the WC, lol. Weren't the jays competing last year for the WC, or was it this year too? You can say the Jays are competing with like half the AL for a WC (twins/mariners/A's/angels/rays/yankees). Plus Rangers/White Sox should be better next year too. But the Yanks should have 1 spot locked in next year again, so, next year = no bueno.
