Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 They upset Donaldson by telling him that a 2 or 3 year extension is all they would discuss....Donaldson upset them by telling how to do their job and faked a f***ing injury so they couldn't trade him for top value. Same as he did to Beane. There is zero leverage here. No one claimed him, Yankees wouldn't deal unless the Jays threw in 100% of the salary. I'm not buying what you're selling. That has conspiracy theory written all over it. There could have been a great deal of leverage if this were handled correctly. He's one of the top players in the league and every postseason team wanted him on their roster. Yankees, Red Sox, Braves, Brewers, Indians, Phillies. They were all linked to him, there was a huge amount of interest and we seemingly blew it

I am liking the $20 I put on them last month now. If that's true then JD is a massive cock and I hope he tears his knee up in game 1 for Cleveland.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Wouldn't that cost him millions of dollars. I honestly just believe that he faked it in the past few weeks. This is a guy who you couldn't keep from the field in the past. Suddenly they have to force him to start rehab.

Bruh, you may need a full time helmet.

They were all linked to him, there was a huge amount of interest and we seemingly blew it I know he has a history of trying to force GM's hands (Beane & AA). I don't believe that he faked an injury all year...but they had to force him on to the field this week to make him eligible. I am sure they didn't handle it as well as they could (trading him prior to the deadline would have been the best for the return as it stands) but when they held on knowing that they wanted to trade him in August, I really believe he made sure that his value didn't increase. If he comes to Cleveland showing no ill effects I'll believe it to be true.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 BNS says a PTBNL and money. There you go Sounds about right. Congrats. Couldn't have possibly gotten less for JD. Lol
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 BNS says a PTBNL and money. There you go Wonder if that means it could be a guy on the 40 then.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Sounds about right. Congrats. Couldn't have possibly gotten less for JD. Lol Is that a challenge? Shitpiro might take it on.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 We have the asset the want, so....how is it they have us by the nads? Worst case scenario, he doesn't get traded, gets offered a QO and declines, and we get a comp pick somewhere around 70 next season. If the trade off doesn't exceed the value the FO places on that comp pick, then you don't make the trade. So again, how do they have us by the nads? I am not glad I was right, because it sucks for us all.. But, Like I said... an Fnnn PTBNL and salary dump fnn sucks!
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 If that's actually the return, it deserves to get torn to shreds.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 10:23pm: The Jays will get a player to be named later “with some value” while covering some of Donaldson’s remaining salary, per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Wonder if that means it could be a guy on the 40 then. It would have to be on the 25 and passed waivers, no?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Granderson: Outfield prospect Demi Orimoloye will go to the Jays in the deal, which is now official. Some of the remainder of Granderson’s $5MM salary will be covered by the Jays, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca tweets.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 It would have to be on the 25 and passed waivers, no? That was my question. I don't know the rule if they can trade a player on the 40 after the season as a PTBNL without them clearing waivers. Seems like it would be breaking the rules but some rules can be bent.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 As expected. People already don't like the Shatkins, and this Donaldson thing is playing out worse than anyone could have ever expected. Once the return is announced, and it's a marginal prospect, Twitter will hit another level. Twitter is probably the worst thing ever invented.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Wonder if that means it could be a guy on the 40 then. I'm nearly positive it'll be Cody Anderson, who was probably never passed through waivers.

If he comes to Cleveland showing no ill effects I'll believe it to be true. This isn't a great post. If they had to force him on the field it doesn't mean he was faking an injury, it could mean he was genuinely sore and the Jays were pushing him to play so they could still get something for him. Faking an injury is obscenely stupid for someone in Donaldson's position. Not only did it f*** up his free agency value, a trade allows him to play in the postseason and potentially regain some value, and it also helps him ditch his QO. There was literally no good reason for Donaldson to hinder the chances of him being traded. I can't see a professional athlete shooting themselves in the foot that many times just to be petty, certainly not when there are agents and family involved.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I'm not usually very critical of the FO, but they handled this situation very poorly. They upset Donaldson for whatever reason and let that go public. Then they lose leverage by making it seem like we were desperate and not going to offer the QO. Teams are always lining up to get to get this calibre of player for the postseason and the return could have been fairly significant had they handled this correctly. I dunno, seems to me like the conflict is on Donaldson. The Jays have put a lot of work into the high performance dept. and seems like JD thinks he knows more than they do. He can drink his wheatgrass smoothies or whatever, but seems like his calves are f***ed and he's conveniently blaming the Jays. I'll miss the good times but the future is pretty bright.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Is there something wrong with the water in Toronto? Why is everybody on this team a douche? Ah well, another guy who I'm a lot less pissed off about leaving than I should be because of his behaviour. Next up Stroman the instant his value is back up. In the world of social media, how is it the FO's fault that something went public? Donaldson is obviously trying to prove something here, what do you want them to do? Tape his mouth shut and hack his Twitter account to lock him out?

I've seen 3 different theories as to how they upset JD just in this thread alone. As far as I know, there really hasn't been any information from a reliable source.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 Anbody know if a player on the 40 who didn't pass through waivers can be included here as a PTBNL after the season?
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Donaldson already changed his instagram picture to him in an Indians jersey. He definitely wanted out I smell conspiracy. No way could he have changed it that fast. Shapiro, Donaldson and the Indians have been working on this for weeks. TheHurl too so he hits on his $20 bet.

He definitely wanted out Which is all the more reason to have kept him and offered him the QO. He wasn't going to accept it and we would have got a pick out of it instead of nothing. We got nothing so Shatkins could help out their buddies. It's really rather pathetic.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Jays are covering $2.7M of the remainder of JD's contact.
