Tulo, Travis, Solarte, Diaz, Drury, Gurriel

At least two of those guys need to get gone.

Solarte looks like a DFA candidate

Can you imagine the casuals reaction to that lol. That might be the last stand he depressingly leads the team in Homeruns as well.

In the 20 years I’ve been watching baseball closely, the only player I remember walking away from serious guaranteed money is Gil Meche.

Prince Fielder?

Solarte isn't as bad as everyone thinks. His xwOBA is a very respectable .329, much higher than league average. He's getting BABIP'd into a bad year.

Yeah there's a chance he could be back but probably not.

I would think the chances he accepts the qualifying offer would be quite high. I doubt anyone else will offer him a 1 year deal at 18 million at this point. Unless he comes back and shows no ill effects and destroys Baseballs for the rest of the year which he is fully capable of.

Hmm idk I think Donaldson could find a 1 year deal like that.

I don't know what the payroll situation will be like next year but I think the team would rather not pay JD ~$20m even on a one year deal. I think they trade him in August or hope he declines the QO. I wouldn't have an issue with JD on a one year deal but I think payroll is going to slide substantially, and the Jays may want to see what they have with Drury, Gurriel, and eventually Vlad.

Prince Fielder?

Prince Fielder is still being paid, I believe the Rangers had insurance on his contract so they're covering the contract. He also takes up a 40 man spot IIRC.

Really? Please post a tally of my post history and the ones that are about Tulo...if it is 30% I will pay for a doctor and get Spanky's sexually assaulted cat a check up.

Bobby Bonilla gets paid $1.19M from the Mets, every July 1, until 2035.

There's a long list of players with deferred money. The Nats are paying the most.

you dont think its unethical to get paid grossly more than you deserve?

Is it unethical for him to get the league min. for 2007 when he was worth over 5 Wins?

He was worth way more money than he received his first 9 years, not his fault the MLB system pays players when they are older.

So are the Jays getting insurance money from the Tulo contract? Normally big contracts are insured and if he doesn't play a single game you would think they would get financial relief.

I don't think anyone here knows, but my guess would be no.

Give em a call, I've always wondered this.

Do the Mets get insurance for David Wright? He would be the most comparable to our situation. Perhaps a doctor has to say hes unable to continue to his career to get that insurance.

The Jays have a policy of not insuring contracts.

But I don't know how this works - if Colorado had a policy on his contract, I don't know what happens to it after Tulo is traded.

Deferring the salary certainly makes sense if Rogers is going to use his crippling contract as a reason why we can't spend money to improve the team. You just don't want to get into a habit of doing that.

No point, given we'll be paying it out while rebuilding.

If it was the NBA I would agree with you. But its Baseball and no salary cap exists. I would rather pay 2 million a year for the next 30 years. Its like a signing a veteran reliever every year.

Call me crazy but I think having Tulo around to mentor Bo will be a good thing. I mean no one is going to trade for him so might as well use his vetrin presents to our advantage.
