I dunno, if you see him for 2 seeks this year, then it's 2 more weeks you don't see him next year when his presence could actually matter, no matter how small the impact.

 

I don't think the casuals care that much about who is playing the last two weeks of the season.

They should do it even if you are only getting 1 or 2 FA years so that he can open camp with the team and remove all the crap that's going to come along with the service time questions.

Do we DH him? JD is probably our 3B next year. We won't get anything worth while in a trade for JD and he'll probably have to accept his QO. We can't just let him walk as a free agent without that pick coming back. I guess we just bench Morales and his $11M. We could also rotate JD and Vladdy in/out of 3B/DH. JD is getting old. We need to protect our asset. Have him DH every 3rd day and let him focus on mashing. Then maybe we can flip him next year.

I don't think they will DH Vlad everyday. Actually I know they won't. If Donaldson is infact back next year and I'm not sure that will be the case. They will probably rotate Donaldson, Vlad, and Smoak around 1B, 3B, and DH. Or maybe Donaldson accepts the QO and they trade him anyway. And we can't rule out Smoak getting moved out. I think this roster will be very different come opening day next year. So many things are unknown at this point.

I'm guessing they don't want him up there simply because it's likely that Drury or LG Jr might need to go down again before September and if they move Biggio up, then they'd just have to move him down again.

 

Or, they'd just rather have him play the full year at AA, go through the playoffs and start at AAA next year. Heck, it's not like Biggio and Bo are world beating at AA like Vlad was. I don't think it's 100% clear they've both mastered the level.

 

Though as I look at Biggio numbers.... his 3 true outcomes are sick. 2nd in HRs (21), 1st in walks(77) and 2nd in strikeouts(111) in the league. That's commitment to the program.

 

209 of his 407 PAs have gone to walks, Ks or homers.

Why promote a guy to a losing team when he's on a winning team who will be in the playoffs. It's not like Biggio will be added to the 40 to start next year anyway. So he gets his time in AAA next year. Same with Bo. Vlad is a different story as he will be on the 40 at some point in the next 8 months (barring injury)

Didn't Vlad say when he was 16 that his goal was to make the big leagues at 19. If he goes and hits .400 at AAA for a month and doesn't come up in September I can see him being quite pissed off. Ross Atkins has already made the statement that he won't factor service time in his decision to call up Vlad. But its going to be really difficult to be sneaky especially if hes not noticeably bad defensively. I think the Jays should should just hold him back until April 15th next year and Atkins can take the blame. People already hate him so its perfect.

Obviously, if the Jays were going to piss that year away, he'd be here long ago, it's one or the other.
