burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Will be promoted after the HOF induction weekend.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Wonderful, though I kind of wish Bo was promoted with him.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Wonderful, though I kind of wish Bo was promoted with him. They’re big boys, they’ll be fine. Bo doesn’t get to ride Vlad’s coat tails, not that he wants to
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Vlad at AA: 14 home runs and 60 RBI, .402/.449/.671 in 61 games.

Stoneyen Verified Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Hahaha the FisherCats twitter put together a video montage tribute to Vlad!
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Wonderful, though I kind of wish Bo was promoted with him. I do as well but Bo has had an up and down season. Seems they we have been waiting forever for him to put together a sustained hot streak. He hasn’t really warranted the promotion.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 He'll debut this year in September. His defense will suck ass and they'll use that to justify his service time manipulation next year.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 So what do you guys think they'll do when he mashes in Buffalo until their season ends on September 2nd? Just sit around on his couch and watch the Jays for a month?

Maybe give him a month off before going to winter league if they feel he needs to make up the ABs he lost while hurt.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I would think they'll send him back to New Hampshire for the Eastern League playoffs. Theres no ideal situation here and it's all because of the service time rules. Sending him backwards isn't ideal either but I'd do that. I didn't realize the playoffs extended into September. When do the playoffs end?

Mid September, depending on if New Hampshire makes it out of the first round.

You seem pretty certain on this issue (almost like how Grant feels about most things haha). It would be even more egregious and obvious IMO but they hold all the cards. The theory I'm working from is that I think we are going to suck ass next year anyway so playing in meaningless September games this year or in meaningless April games next April doesn't matter so much.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Mid September, depending on if New Hampshire makes it out of the first round. Yeah I would definitely do that then.

Oh I have no idea what they will do - I wouldn’t be that surprised if they give him MLB time in September. But I feel very strongly about what they shouldn’t do. I don’t think there’s a sound argument for promoting him.

Let's say he plays in the NH playoffs and comes up for two weeks in Sept. Why is that a horrible plan?

Why is that a horrible plan? I see it like this: the probability of those games meaning something is 0. The probability of two weeks of games in April meaning something is a bit bigger than that. The team doesn’t look great in 2019, but I’m expecting it to be a Rays-style team that will project around 0.500 while hoping to get lucky and pick up a WC spot. I’d prefer to have Vlad for two of those weeks than two weeks at the end of a season that’s already 100% lost.

From a PR perspective there will be riots in the streets if Vlad mashes in September, mashes in spring training and is sent down for 2 weeks at the start of 2019.

That makes sense but if that's the reason then it really shouldn't be a big deal one way or the other. 2 weeks of Vlad vs 2 weeks of Solarte/Drury or whoever it is is probably like 0.2 War?

Sure. But I don’t actually see any similar upside to using that small amount of projected value in September instead. In fact, as king says, it’s a PR nightmare waiting to happen with nothing to really be gained.

I don't think it will be that much worse than when he mashes in AAA and then goes home when expanded rosters happen and Richard Urena comes up instead. His defense will predictably suck and everyone will see it this way. And it's only going to be a matter of two weeks. Not that big of a deal. But it doesn't really matter to me. I remember him saying it was important to him to make the bigs as a teenager so maybe this would placate him some is all. But either way we will manipulate his service time and it will piss him off either way I guess.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 it'll need to be 6 weeks under this scenario No it will be two extra weeks so 4 total.

Can easily send him to NH for the playoffs and say that it means more for his development to finish what he started. f*** could even say that they asked him and he wanted to be in NH for the playoffs. OR and here is the crazy part you could say that it's a smart business decision
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 No it will be two extra weeks so 4 total. September 1st is 30 days. You'd need to keep him back 40ish days to keep him under 171
