Ray Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Getting Kloffenstein changes the complexion of this draft. If you're into the rankings, we got 3 Top 50 players according to BA and MLB.com. Pretty good considering our draft pool.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Sean Wymer with our 4th round pick from TCU. College stats: 10 GS 3.65 ERA 8.39 K/9
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Shapiro better sign Kloffestein, but from what I've read, he's committed to TCU. If that's the case, Tristen Pompey would have made more sense.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Texas area scout was well worked this draft. Kloffenstein, Groshans, Wymer all from Texas.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Wouldn't mind seeing us grab a top college reliever at some point, in hopes of getting some bullpen help in the near future. Feltman was one profile that jumped out.
Ray Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Is he a rotation arm or bullpen? Ceiling is probably 3rd or 4th starter, otherwise he has the stuff the be a good bullpen arm.
Todd Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Is it just me or is this years blue jays draft crap. Of the four they have drafted maybe one will sign. and that's so far.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 The Bio on Wymer sounds interesting. I assume they will try him as a starter.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I believe the panel said that only 3 picks went unsigned out of the entire first ten rounds last year, but Todd feels the Jays alone will match that in the first four rounds this season - highly likely
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 thats a lot of money for the slot. Wonder where they are getting it all.
devo Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 The draft is in the 5th round and they've already agreed to a signing bonus with their 3rd round pick? I call BS
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Kloffenstein signs for $2.5 million Holy f*** that was fast.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Awesome! I haven't been paying much attention so far but basically we took a guy earlier than he probably should have gone but are going to try and get him underslot. Then we picked this TCU guy later on and are going overslot for him?

King Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 The Rays just drafted a pitcher who turned 17 in March

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 thats a lot of money for the slot. Wonder where they are getting it all. Signing Groshans under slot. Conine will probably sign around slot or just under. But will likely see senior signs through rounds 5-10 for next to nothing bonuses to secure their top picks. We just took a senior catcher in the 5th round. Its not an unfamiliar strategy for the Blue Jays.

Todd Verified Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I'm just saying jays pass on a lot of good players. For example in the first round the jays drafted a guy that was raked 31st overall. Passing on a lot of good pitchers. Raked higher then him. And if you know me I'm a prospects guy. And it's usually for the jays to sign players as the draft is going on.

They also got the 43rd ranked player by MLB.com with the 88th pick. Rankings mean nothing and vary by scouting services. Stop getting hung up on them.

Stop getting hung up on them. Additionally, taking an underslot player at 12 allowed them to draft (and now sign) that player at 88. Very few teams, if any, would have been comfortable drafting Kloffenstein at 88 due to $$. Groshans allowed the Jays to
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 Sounds like a great pick with the only downside being signability. Get it done Shatkins. ask and you shall receive.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 I guess the chances of Tristian Beck falling to us is pretty slim eh Jesus - he almost fell to us in the 4th! How awesome would that have been?
