TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Was last year when Osuna missed games due to anxiety issues Is was due to him knocking up a 2nd woman I thought

onwego Verified Member Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 As I said before...sports love a rehab story. Osuna needs to say the right things and do the right things now. not for beating the tar out of a woman it doesn't
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Talent will almost always trump behaviour. Even if it's something horrible. If your talent level is that high, you'll get another shot.

IF it's as bad as the rumours then his Jays career is over, but someone else would still give him a shot. There is still a chance than it's nowhere near as bad as the rumours and we may see him again.

I'd expect someone to be jailed for a significant amount of time if they punched their spouse a few times then threw her down a flight of stairs, but I have no idea what the precedent is.

I'm no lawyer but I doubt he'd get over a year if his defence was it was an argument that got out of hand - plus he was only charged with assault not assault causing bodily harm. But we're getting way ahead of ourselves here!

It would depend entirely on history, the severity of the assault, the safety of the victim/ witnesses and the likelyhood of him reoffending. Without any knowledge of the case (assuming the above factors are satisfied)I’d say he’s looking at release on an recognizance with conditions to not contact her, attend court, etc. He’s already likely out, but tbh I haven’t read any of the facts of the case in the news.

leaffie Verified Member Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Me Too!! and that is not about the women's movement, but about reading that article. He obviously has some axe to grind. I don't care if Osuna is the best closer that ever walked the earth, if he did this, then he will get his punishment and it will be well deserved. But if this was a case of alcohol and mistakes on both parts, then articles like this are undeserved and sanctimonious. For many years, I have seen the damage that can be done by men that are out of control to women, but have always believed that both names should be kept out of it, until charges have been laid and all court proceedings are finished. Then if the man is guilty, then he can bear the consequences.
Mohammed Verified Member Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 No idea what to believe but you can tell Dean's a guy that's not likely going to hold back whereas any MLB/Sportsnet reporter is likely to have reservations about releasing information, especially if it's not confirmed.

Doubt he'd even get 6 months since he's a first time offender with no prior record (to my knowledge). The work visa would probably be the biggest roadblock to coming back if they decided to take it away. Looks like he isn't going to play this year but next year I can see him back.

I know somebody who was convicted for domestic assault 2 years ago with eye witnesses. He got 30 days in Jail, a year probation, and had to go through an anger management course. Unless Osuna did severe life changing damages he won't spend much time in prison. Probably an excellent chance it never even gets that far with a good lawyer.

He'd probably cut a deal with the prosecution for Community service and probation etc..
FIAF Verified Member Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Even if he is guilty he will still get a 2nd chance surely if guys like John Lennon and Mayweather admit to domestic violence why would Osuna not get one?

Yeah likely. One of the Oakland A's players can't enter Canada either right now because of a legal issue and will miss their series here. He pulled a gun on a food delivery worker and gets sentenced June 4th.
