AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Barker was a garbage hitter and is a garbage analyst. I have no idea why he has a job. He's like a poor man's Kevin Millar. I think you would make a better analyst/coach, if you were a player who struggled, rather than a naturally gifted player who just instinctively had a superior skill set. Barker made the majors, but he had to fight for every plate appearance he ever got. I urge you to be a Barker convert. He is one of the top minds in all of baseball.

tercet Verified Member Posted April 27, 2018 Author Posted April 27, 2018 Sorry I'm a bit lost have you guys not seem his battling line over the last 7 days 222/333/444? Yea he looked good and bad last night vs Sale, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what type of hitter he is going to be.

Yea he looked good and bad last night vs Sale, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what type of hitter he is going to be. First of all, the Blue Jays had an off-day on Monday, so in his last 7 games his actual line is: So let's say for some reason you attribute the off-day to have any sort of value to his performance, for which you would still be an idiot. That line is good for a 114 wRC+, on a .250 BABIP with an excellent walk rate and a very passable strikeout rate. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that's a damn good line, yup.
tercet Verified Member Posted April 27, 2018 Author Posted April 27, 2018 Yep he is going to walk 20% of the time, n1

Actually his plate discipline gains are making a (semi) believer out of me. His ISO isn't sustainable but the BB and K% improvements bode very well. His career MLB BB rate is now at 9% over about a 1/2 season worth of PA, and at his age there is room for further improvement. He may not be the low-OBP hacker that we assumed was his ceiling. He is showing the promise of a dude who could BB at 10%+, K at under 25%, and post ISOs above .200. That's a legit above average hitter.

Gunna go down sinking in teh anti-teoscar ship You have some serious contrarian tendencies, Mr. tercet. Have you explored psychologically why you feel compelled to be (perhaps irrationally) pessimistic and adversarial to the opinions of your peers? Are you a 2nd child?
tercet Verified Member Posted April 27, 2018 Author Posted April 27, 2018 No, not gonna get fooled by some random SSS. I was the equivalent of a teoscar fanboy over SSS back in the days with snider, jpa, ruiz, brad mills, rzep, etc. Ill trust his 7 year minor league track record > SSS MLB

I don't want to be too anecdotal, but for him to working 2 walks against Chris Sale is also pretty damn impressive. Seems to indicate that he has taken to heart the need to make improvements to his plate discipline, which I'm sure was made a focus for him by management.
Ray Verified Member Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Is Justin Upton best case scenario for what Teoscar Hernandez can be? Upton 162 game avg: .268/.348/.478 120 OPS+ 30HR, 70BB and 170K.

Upton 162 game avg: .268/.348/.478 120 OPS+ 30HR, 70BB and 170K. Let's hold off on irrational comparisons until Teoscar has at least gone through the league pitchers more than once. MLB is littered with players that started hot and went cold after the pitchers figured out the weaknesses.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Yeah. He made sense if you thought it was a 110-120 wRC+ DH. But a league average (or worse) DH who has no reason to play 1B with Smoak and Pearce around and runs like Pujols? That’s an anchor. Yup, his PA's tonight were the straw that broke the camels back for me, when JD's back, he should be gone, not much rope left.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Agree that Morales needs to go. Use Grandy and Pearce at DH and roll with Hernandez, Pillar, and Grichuk in the outfield, for better or worse. Morales is not needed, and is no longer good. Plus, Gibbons has this derpy habit of pinch hitting Morales for Pearce, which defies any sort of logic. It needs to end. Swallow your pride (Shatkins) and accept the sunk cost (Rogers). Bad moves happen. No need to prolong it.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Considering how the Jays got Hernandez and that he was something like the 18th ranked prospect in Houston's farm, if he provides 10 WAR over 5 years as a 4th OF I will consider that a pretty big win.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 But who will be the home town role model for Gurriel???????? Diaz is from Cuba and they play the same position. There's no more excuses for keeping Morales....eat the money and cut bait.

Wat.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 We should probably trade him for prospects while the hype is high. Yeah like we should have traded Bautista in 2010. That hype turned out to be 6 straight all star appearances. Players make adjustments and improve all the time. You don't take a guy who's got elite level physical tools and showing signs of a breakout and trade him for prospects when he has 6 years of control. I think I may have missed some sarcasm so just disregard this post.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 (edited) We should probably trade him for prospects while the hype is high. I disagree, given the years of control. I'd be making enquiries related to JA Happ, for sure. Edited April 28, 2018 by Jimcanuck

tercet Verified Member Posted April 28, 2018 Author Posted April 28, 2018 If Teoscar can learn to take the down-away pitches rather then grounding out on them 99% of the time ill be a believer, until then im da #1 hater
