Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Exactly. 10. lol... you don't say! Shut up John, lol.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 All correct, however the single biggest factor of a changeup being effective is velocity difference from the fastball. The best changeups are usually 10 mph slower than a pitchers fastball. This is the case with Marco. So while it doesn't matter how hard the fastball is... it matters how much slower the changeup is. The more separation, the better This isn't exactly true. King Felix has one of the best in baseball and it's only 5-6 mph slower than his fastball. There are more than a few pitchers throwing hard changeups effectively. That said - I like how Sanchez's change up as looked so far. Just throw more strikes man.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 It's just about deception, 8-12 mph is ideal.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Here's a good recent-ish article on the changeup https://elitebaseballperformance.com/modern-changeup-best-new-pitch-baseball/

Like I said it's all deception, I was good at it, I suxxxxxxxxx Pro's try, I used it all the time, it's really effective.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Stras has the best changeup in the world and throws it pretty hard in the high 80s/low 90s. Sanchez's change reminds me of his a little bit with the movement he gets.
