All correct, however the single biggest factor of a changeup being effective is velocity difference from the fastball. The best changeups are usually 10 mph slower than a pitchers fastball. This is the case with Marco.

 

So while it doesn't matter how hard the fastball is... it matters how much slower the changeup is. The more separation, the better

 

This isn't exactly true. King Felix has one of the best in baseball and it's only 5-6 mph slower than his fastball. There are more than a few pitchers throwing hard changeups effectively.

 

That said - I like how Sanchez's change up as looked so far. Just throw more strikes man.

That article is well written on the change, yet 8-12 mph is your ideal difference, 10 is the best, but it means nothing, if you can't be deceptive in your delivery and mechanics.

 

yeah there's a lot of ifs, and depends ons for the change to be successful, but the most common ingredient is the velo difference, which enables the other factors to be nastier.
