Because Stroman is coming off a down year and the top 5 prospects in the Padres organization are all top 40 guys.

 

Stroman alone isn't worth that.

 

At his best I think Stroman is more like a 2/3 arm, not an ace.

 

If the Jays can get 2 of the Padres top 10 prospects I'd consider it a win, a top 5 guy is a pipe dream though.

 

In my humble opinion at least.

I was just on the Jays site and i see you can buy a 500 level ticket to every game in March/April for 107 bucks.

I'm not saying don't trade him. If you get a guy or two who could potentially make a difference, make the deal. I'd rather move Stroman for some higher ceiling, higher risk prospects than guys that might be closer to being major league ready and have a lower ceiling. I don't see a way for this team to compete in 3 years unless get some big wins on trades. I'd rather risk Stroman has a bounce back to get a real piece at the deadline than sell low at this point. If you can get that piece now, then deal him.

 

Both Shapiro and Atkins have said as much... they'll only move him if they think the value's right.

What the f*** do the Padres want with Corey Kluber? They're the worst team in their division by a fair bit and a lot of their top prospects are still not MLB ready, some of which they'd have to give away to acquire him.

Who is left on the pitching market? Keuchel and Kikuchi is all I can think of. Maybe once those two are settled the market for Stroman will become clearer.

 

Morosi is a f***ing hack but Shatkins definitely seems to want to trade Stroman (at least there's a lot of smoke now) so I think it's a real possibility.

Considering that Stroman’s value seems to be so low, and he’s only 27, I’d like to see us try to sign him to an extension. He also doesn’t like going through arbitration so he might consider it worthwhile buying out 2 years plus the longer term security.

I actually like this idea a lot. I'm not sure Stroman's ego will allow him to realize what a fair offer would be. I'd give stroman 2 to 3 years extension at 15 or 16 mil a season.
