John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 I'm just taking about hitting averages as it pertains to comparison with respect to historic numbers. You can talk about them in any comprison you want, they're still useles without any other accompanying info, thereby making their comparison to historic numbers....useless. You may as well be discussing how the players generally don't wear high socks anymore, that's about as relevant.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 so is there any chance biggio gets a september call up?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 so is there any chance biggio gets a september call up? It's not a non-zero chance, but I doubt it.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 It's not a non-zero chance, but I doubt it. he's 23 and a .400 OBP with 26 bombs this year. He played as well as he possibly could this year and wasn't promoted to AAA. He'll be in his decline years by the 7th year if the continue to wait to start his service clock. I don't see why they wouldn't call him up.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 so is there any chance biggio gets a september call up? I'll go against John here and say it is a zero chance. He doesn't need to be added to the 40 man and New Hampshire is going to the playoffs.

I hadn't thought about the playoffs, but there's zero chance Biggio doesn't get taken in the rule 5 draft next year if they don't add him to the 40 by then.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 oh piss off...there are bunch of hot garbage guys on our 40 man we traded for. Biggio is probably a guy who could contribute to the big league club next year and could use the time in the big leagues this year, but we have a fetish for middle infielders and so there's a ton of guys blocking a guy who should be progressing.

Like I said, it's not a non-zero chance because of exactly what you said. But as Hurl mentioned, he's not rule 5 eligible yet (drafted 2016 so this is just his 3rd season, after 2019 he would be added or risk being lost) so there isn't a need to bring him up...NH is going to the playoffs, and if I'm not mistaken, I recall a conversation from somewhere where Atkins mentioned he is a proponent of a player spending time at every level before making the big leagues, which obviously Biggio hasn't done yet

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Man, I hope we can trade Granderson (Judge and others) to the Yanks and Estrada (Bauer) to the Indians for some prospects. Seem like decent fits.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Any chance Stroman is done for the season?

tercet Verified Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Biggio's best case scenario is like Dan Uggla imo, but probably somewhere around Ryan Schimpf, he just Ks way too much. But with our 2b/ss logjam, we probably end up trading him. The Jays are in love with gurribabip and won't give up on him easily.

tercet Verified Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 With SRF and Pannone starting the rest of the year, Gurribabip due back soon, and The Mirage no longer being a Mirage how much lower can we go? Like 5th-6th probably? http://www.tankathon.com/mlb

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 I like when players that hit rockets off the bat get rewarded with a lot of Green personally. I wish you could call Rusell Martbabip. Neither roll off the tongue though.

It would also make more sense if it was actually true. If you look at his underlying numbers Gurriel is actually slightly unlucky given his exit velo and results. But why let reality creep in to whatever world tercet lives in.
