Banned. Verified Member Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 You are kidding right. I've wanted Gibby gone more than anyone for 3 years lol. Don't care the reason they use. Great guy...terrible coach for the most part imo If you're going to suggest that someone get fired you could at least get their position correct.

Key22 Verified Member Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I often wonder why teams wait until the deadline. Take JA Happ - the guy has been very good since he's been here and the Toronto Blue Jays brass have to realize by now that this team isn't going to win. So unless they're dumb they should be making phone calls. A team that is currently contending probably will continue to contend and if you are going to trade assets - why would you not want the 10-11 starts Happ is going to make in June and Juy for the Jays? Sure I understand waiting on JD because the guy has been injury prone the last two years and he hasn't hit this year so you sort of have to wait and hope he has 4 weeks of video game numbers to attract interest. I just don't get why the management doesn't get that a rebuild is in order. The fans attending the games will drop off a cliff soon anyway so why let Baltimore have the top AL pick? Put Morales in CF and have him bat leadoff. Have Martin play short the rest of the year and bat third. Grichuk 4th. Last place - see Houston. Admit it - the perverse side of you wants to see Morales play CF.

Put a circus on the field to move up a couple positions in the draft to take a player we probably would have ended up with if we didnt make a mockery of the game. Maybe have him contribute 3 years down the road. Genius
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Admit it - the perverse side of you wants to see Morales play CF. I would actually, maybe as like a 4 OF set against a really true flyball hitter. Why not? He's already a circus act, we may as well get some laughs out of it. As for a different question of yours about why teams wait until the deadline.... most teams always go up to the draft with what they have, to give themselves a true evaluation of what they already have internally. Then the resources they have are heavily put towards the draft and then the signing period which takes you into early July. Huge focus is put on the draft. Then the attention turns to trades. Some teams will have talked about certain players already over the winter meetings and spring training which will give them a leg up in trade talks (probably the Seattle/Tampa scenario), and some teams you just know are always open for business to get rid of money (Tampa).

They get swayed into making a better offer because they are under pressure to make a decision and depending on the player are almost in competition for his services. If you feel like you could get a great offer you like now pull the trigger. If not wait for that one team who desperately wants to make the playoffs come in and blow your socks off.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Happ really should be a great trade chip. We have a few guys we should be able to move for help, but he might be the best asset to move. Obviously JD could pick it up at any time and be WAY more valuable

BTS Community Moderator Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Donaldson to the DL, but it's "not a big deal". "Only expected to miss a game or two". What a f***ing disaster. We’re going to get next to nothing for him.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 What a f***ing disaster. We’re going to get next to nothing for him. Since his value has plummeted so much, we will not trade him and he will get a QO. He will probably accept the QO and come back for a 1 yr deal to build his value up. Since we will offer him a QO, no one will think he is as valuable as a 1st round draft pick.. Which, at this point, is more valuable then we could get back in trade.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 What a f***ing disaster. We’re going to get next to nothing for him. Have to hope he accepts the QO. Gives the team a chance to keep Vlad down to start 2019 and maybe he rebuilds his value next year. If not, yeah, we will either sell him for s*** in July or get a comp pick. Not good.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 f*** yes. Doubt the Halos do it though Kole Calhoun has been the worst hitter in baseball this year. He has a +wRC of 3. The last thing we need is another outfielder who can't hit. The only reason he's still playing every day is his defense, but the Angels will be looking to upgrade him at the deadline.

Calhoun would be a poor acquisition when the outfield is the one position we already have numerous prospects who need playing time.

We should be happy if just two of those prospects match or exceed Calhoun Numerous prospects - Alford, Teoscar, who else FG has one OF on Jays top 30 prospects = Alford
The Iceman Verified Member Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 WHat if..... What if Smoak hit 20 bunts a day in BP for practice. Learns how to bunt well. Every time the shift is on he lays down a bunt for a single. His avg goes up, and if teams stop playing the shift on him it is a win as well. WHY the F doesn't Gibby say to Smoak you MUST bunt when the shift is on? I wonder if managers will ever say this. IMO there is no way with the whole side of the diamond open you wouldn't hit over .500 bunting. A game last week had 2 runners on, zero out and Smoak up and of course he struck out. Just spitballing but Iw onder if we will ever see this??
