Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 I wonder if there are any easy to think of bad contract swaps that Toronto might be able to pull off for Tulowitzki. Maybe Morales + Tulo for Miggy + money eaten. I'm sure Detroit would like to be free from that obligation sooner but they'd still have to pick up a substantial portion. Can't see our front office trading for Cabrera. The closest trade value to Tulo right now is probably David Wright - that's how far Tulo's value has dropped.

It's just, will he ever be healthy again?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 Thing is, if Tulo is ever healthy again, he does provide value. It's just, will he ever be healthy again? Yeah exactly. IMO worth keeping him for his experience, the chance of value (especially in a playoff run) and the negligible return we'd get.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Thing is, if Tulo is ever healthy again, he does provide value. It's just, will he ever be healthy again? YUP, Tulo is still better than Diaz defensively and offensively IMO.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Can't see our front office trading for Cabrera. It's tough to see a scenario where it would make sense. The Tigers would have to eat at least $50M of the remaining contract. Even then, I'm sure our Front Office would rather just get that $30M off the books ASAP. Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Thing is, if Tulo is ever healthy again, he does provide value. It's just, will he ever be healthy again? Any trade assumes that Tulo is a dead asset and that Morales is a negative 0 WAR player, IMO.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 The closest trade value to Tulo right now is probably David Wright - that's how far Tulo's value has dropped. Hard disagree. Just take one second to look at their ages, injury info, and games played / WAR over the last 3 years.

Would probably provide on the field value if healthy = also yes. Have to assume that while playing he's something near an average SS.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Ryan Braun maybe? But that's not really a great match, and he has 10/5.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) I don't really get the impetus to move Tulo. Diaz is a nice depth piece to have but any discussion about him stealing the shortstop job has been premature. At his very worst, Tulo still provides the same kind of production of Diaz does now. You could argue that with youth on his side, Diaz is more likely to bounce back but let's see if it actually happens before worrying about what to do with Tulo. Tulo, as far as we've seen, isn't so bad that he can't start and Diaz, as far as we know, isn't so good that he can't be a back up. That could change. Worry about it if and when it does. That’s a lot of money!

Wright is owed less than Tulo (this year both = $20m, then Wright’s $15m / $12m against Tulo’s $34m + $4m buyout) and will probably never play again. Tulo might play in 150 games in the next 3 seasons if he’s lucky - their values are a lot closer than you think.

The Texas native later was spotted driving 132 km/h — nearly 30 km/h over the speed limit. Gruber admitted he had been drinking before getting behind the wheel, according to an affidavit. A member of the 1992 World Series champion Jays, Gruber refused a breathalyzer test, field sobriety test and having his blood drawn. He was booked into the Travis County Jail and released on $3,000 bail.

The Iceman Verified Member Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 What does Gibby do with Grichuk and Morales? The team is already carrying a SS hitting .191, 2nd base hitting .155 and catcher hitting .132. Most expect that these 3 will turn things around. We can't afford two guys with that weak of a bat at DH and RF IMO as this team is currently configured. Keeping a guy as a late inning RF defensive replacement that is not a base stealer doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do. Pompey is back with 4 SBs in 5 games in Buffalo. That seems like a better 4th OF option and we need to see if Dalton can be a MLB player or we will lose him for nothing. Who do you value more. Grichuk or Dalton Pompey??

Grichuk is probably only 4th OF material anyway (though he does have some upside). Morales can be an overpaid bench bat. Hang on to Pompey for now and keep him in AAA. We can deal him at the deadline for something or next year we can try and clear some space for him.
