bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Estrada vs sale on Thursday... Have to win the first two.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Blue Jays placed RHP John Axford on the bereavement list. Axford will be away from the team for the next 3-7 games. Tim Mayza has replaced him in the bullpen. Not sure what happened (to Axford's family). I'd love to see Mayza get into a groove in the majors though....and never go back to AAA.
GodDonaldson Verified Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Estrada vs sale on Thursday... Have to win the first two. Hopefully Estrada pitches great on Thursday. As a matter of fact, Chris Sale has been getting very low run support during his outing.. That's why he only has 1 win with sub 2 ERA. I don't know why the Red Sox bats go quiet when Sale is pitching.

I don't know why the Red Sox bats go quiet when Sale is pitching. He has this stupid habit of cutting up the team's uniforms right before game time and the team has to settle on their alternate jerseys. The batters need time to adjust to those uniforms therefore they don't hit very well on that first day which is always his start. In anger he repeats the process again his next start. It's a vicious, self-defeating cycle.

Mop up duty more like it.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Estrada vs sale on Thursday... Have to win the first two. That Thursday is giveaway day. Going to be tons of people to watch Sale carve us up. Miracles do happen though. I just don't have a ton of confidence in Estrada right now especially with the lingering back issues.

She was a resident at the nursing home my girlfriend works for.

AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Barker called out the Jays on today's baseball central "Everybody's gonna be watching now, its the Redsox, the record is what there is. Now its time for some guys to start stepping up and doing their things."

Stroman I guess but he's not even pitching in this series. Edit, I suppose Smoak could be tossed in there also given his recent woes
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Josh is just watching the future dollar signs dwindle with every DL day this season, unless he spends nearly no more time on it and rakes the s*** out of the ball for the rest of the year.

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 So who's taking a turn at the GDT?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 So who's taking a turn at the GDT? I will do it
GodDonaldson Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Do you think who will be in danger of getting cut in the bullpen if the team decides to add a long reliever in the pen? I hope it won’t be Oh, at least he can throw strikes.. and I do think Axford is the one who is in danger. His overpowering fastball is meaningless with his bad control..
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Honestly it's Loup right now. He isn't even being used anymore
GodDonaldson Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Honestly it's Loup right now. He isn't even being used anymore I think he will be kept in the roster unless another lefty relievers step up in the minors.. We may need a lefty reliever in some situations.. Loup actually has the worst ERA in the bullpen right now.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Blue Jays FG playoff odds now at 44.1%, up from 37.1% at the start of the season. Angels are right behind us at 39.5%.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Honestly didn't expect the Jays to come out of the gate this strong. I did maintain that they had a shot this year if we stayed relatively healthy, but we've been playing some good baseball even with JD hurt. I really underestimated the value of good depth. I guess when you spend years watching Goins and Barney bat when someone is hurt or has an off day, you forget how nice it is to see a bat come off the bench with a shot at hitting. There will be tougher days to come for sure, but its been fun baseball to watch so far!

Yep, it's nice looking at a lineup that contains no stars but has enough balance and platoon efficiency to compete nightly. It's enough to make you wonder if Vlad might actually play some meaningful MLB games later this season.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Let's say the Jays do bring up Guerrero. Does the team get any reputation equity for willing to start the clock based on need/merit instead of f***ing with his service time? CBA will be drastically different in a few years time but hopefully the Jays would be able to leverage that rep into another good IFA signing given that Guerrero and Osuna would be on the right side of Heyward heading into free agency.

Besides, nobody here wants to see us lose a year of Vlad for a 0.5 WAR upgrade in a year of marginal contention, that's just Front Office malpractice. Maybe he signs a contract, otherwise there are still meaningful games to be played in September.

More than any other sport probably, an MLB team needs to be resilient if not antifragile.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I wonder if there are any easy to think of bad contract swaps that Toronto might be able to pull off for Tulowitzki.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Maybe Morales + Tulo for Miggy + money eaten. I'm sure Detroit would like to be free from that obligation sooner but they'd still have to pick up a substantial portion.
