Siddall would rather the promotion, money, lol.:P

Yeah, i'm happy for him because Joe's good people. Hopefully, he's promoted (further) to TV colour guy in the future.

Agreed, if that in fact pays more(likely), at least he doesn't have to travel anymore, more time with family, etc...

If I ever see Tepesch start for the Jays in a regular season game again I’m going to vomit.

Biagini and Borucki are likely the first two in line for a call up in the event of an injury, but we’ll see someone like Tepesch spot start at least a few times. Let’s hope the rotation health mirrors 2016 and not 2017!

Biagini, Borucki and Pannone. We should actually be ok with SP depth this season. Hopefully McGuire and Guerrieri are RP depth as well.

We may even see Reid-Foley and Harris debuts if they have bounce back seasons.

TBH I’d still want at least one more veteran for the AAA rotation - if a couple of starters have injuries then suddenly our depth doesn’t look very good anymore.

Yeah, I'm hoping they have bounce backs. I never thought much of Harris but SRF looked so promising a year ago. I'm hoping he figures it out again.

It should've induced vomiting the first time around

Nothing wrong with this move. You need these expendable guys who you can call up in an emergency, then cut loose after. Injuries usually don't coincide with the ideal guy to bring up from the minors.

If the guys you sign to minor league deals were any good they would have been signed to major league deals. So you sign reclamation projects and hope for the best. Since the Jays will be no higher than 3rd place and will not make the playoffs - who really cares about minor league signings. If you don't make the playoffs you may as well finish dead last and get the first overall draft pick.

Luckily this season Tepesch will be behind Biagini, Borucki, Pannone, and McGuire on the depth chart, so if he starts a game it will be if the season goes completely off the rails, but dude still sucks. If he is just a warm body in AAA to help Buffalo then that's fine.

We should DFA Morales and sign Neil Walker. Walker is a better hitter than Travis and a 2-3 WAR contributor. We can then use Travis at DH and have him share time at 2nd.

This would also mean having a decent asset to trade at the trade deadline. Morales is sunk Cost. If only for a few million more we can get a superior hitter who can contribute above average time in the field we should do it

That's a good idea. If we don't release him then Pearce should start at DH.

I totally agree.

First, I hate Morales.

Second, Gibby said yesterday (essentially) that Morales will not get as much playing time as last year, since there plan is to use the DH spot to rest position players, yet still keep their offense in play.

Third, FA prices will probably not continue to be this historically low. Jump now! On as many as we can! If eating Morales' salary is the penalty, it's still a great buy. In terms of WAR for bucks spent.

Fourth, I hate Morales.

In this climate, small market teams that have had a hard time attracting FAs historically should be starting to spend like drunken sailors.

If the Jays wanted to improve on Morales for cheap cost, they could have done that all winter. Pretty much every 1B/DH type was a steal this off season. Unfortunately the Jays don't seem to want to dump him, so we just have to hope he's a good hitter in 2018 and 2019.

They can DH Travis, Pearce and Donaldson a lot with Solarte playing the field. Solarte can also DH once in a while. Morales is probably one of the worst DH options on the team as it stands so I hope his playing time is cut quite a bit and he's turned more into a bench bat. I'd also be really aggressive with pinch running for him early in games.

The issue with having him on the bench is you’re effectively using a bench that’s one man short. Unless Pearce is at 1B, you’re almost never going to bring him on.

Perhaps they can use the 10 day DL a few times to take him out of the lineup?

The only way Morales would be useful off the bench is if they Colabello'd him and used him at 1B and LF. That would be a disaster, but the alternative is sticking a DH-only in a bench spot where he'd have essentially no value. I think the Jays are just going to bite the bullet and play him everyday hoping he has a bounce back year. Otherwise they should have cut bait a long time ago.

Another thing to consider - we’re at a full 40 man squad. I think at least 1 of Alburquerque, Axford and Breslow will make the team, so unless Tulo hits the DL someone is getting DFA.

Would like it to be Maile, but doesn’t seem like that’s the plan.

Guerriei? Pompey? It was possibly a mistake protecting Tellez from rule 5 in hindsight.

It's not ideal but what does it really matter if Pearce is playing DH and Morales is on the bench instead of the other way around? Same goes for the other guys mentioned as well. I suppose the occasional in-game substitutions issues could arise but it's the AL, the bench is more useful for depth for injuries moreso than in game strategy.

Starting Morales simply because he's overpaid and can't play another position makes less sense to me. His ass will plant right on the bench just as well as Pearce or Solarte's would.

Dermody would be my choice.

couldn't we just try to slip Tellez back off a this point? Is anyone going to pick him up at the end of spring?

Dermody is an easy guy to take off. The only other options are Ngoepe because we will have Urena and Gurriel as the extended depth in AA/AAA. Or they can move one of Pompey or Dwight Smith Jr. they are both kind of redundant right now.
