There are a lot of fringe starters out there that could become solid longmen. Jesse Chavez, Liriano, etc. Could be a good way to build rotation depth to go along with Biagini and Borucki.

hard to see anything less than 5/150 for JD

Nothing like paying a 37 year old 30m/yr lol, pass..The Jays had the chance to get a decent prospect for him, but they want to collect season ticket revenue instead. They'll get a semi decent prospect for him at the deadline or they'll just keep him for the playoff push that won't happen. I would love to see him traded in the offseason, when teams still have budget room and maybe a team will give up 1-2 top 5 prospects for him. Fans have to realize, the risk on the team going more than 4 years with him, even 4 years the last 2 years could have a significant drop in production in his 35/36 year seasons.

IMO there are still more intriguing options than that:

- Oh on a cheap one year deal

- Uehara ona cheap one year deal

- Holland on a more expensive 1-year dal

- Rosenthal for two years while he rehabs in 2018

Any of these would be fantastic. Even Siegrist or Torres could be okay.

Yeah those would all be solid.

I think this team needs rotational depth badly though; more than we need relievers even. Biagini and Borucki are the only depth we have right now and one could be slated to a late inning relief role as it stands. Giving a big league bullpen job to a fringe starter could be a good way to entice one to sign with us rather than sign a minor league deal with another team. It would also add to the pen, so it'd kill two birds with one stone.

Guerrieri is also starting depth technically.

JD will deliver $150M of WAR after 3 years of the deal

As much as I love Josh,I say if a deal is

going to be made,it’s got to made for

good for the team,not Donaldson.

The sooner he lets us know

what his plans are the better.

Don’t like being held to ransom.

Todd?

Oh (1 year) + Rosenthal (2 yr deal) + Siegrist (minor league deal) please.

That said - I'd love to know why the Oh deal in Texas fell apart.

Deal was done pending physical, must've been something wrong.

How much would Holland cost on a 1 year deal?

Holland would be lovely but I am sure hes holding out for a place he can close. Especially if he can't secure a multi year deal.

We definitely need at least one significant addition to the bullpen

Yeah lots of options still available. Related - Chavez just signed for the Rangers.

I don't know if you guys understand how badly Holland finished 2017. I wouldn't take him at league min.

He appeared in 10 games in September, and had a 2.77 xFIP and a k/bb of 6.00. He had a rough August, but seemed to figure things out again.

since he rejected the QO I would be pretty surprised if he settled on a 1 year, 7 million deal.

That's why I said minimum, bruh!:P

Also, he's an idiot for not taking the QO, lol.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but it looks like the Jays are sticking with what they have for backup C. I was hoping for a small signing like Carlos Ruiz. At least with Danny Jansen and McGuire we have some solid minor league depth.

McGuire is a KATOH guy. I think we are ok for catching right now.

E: err, Jansen and McGuire are actually both KATOH guys

Every year there are a few standouts that make the team, I am really hoping that Danny Jansen plays so well in Spring, it makes it impossible for them to not bring him North. We know he will be here in 2018, but it would be awesome if he has a dream spring.

On a similar note, I think guys that do really well in Spring should get a chance to make the big club, that is one area where we saw some real successes with AA, I remember when he brought Osuna north there were so many sceptics.

He also brought another young arm that failed that same year, then got traded to Colorado in the Tulo deal.

Also, I'd rather see Jansen get full time action in AAA or AA than be nothing but a backup playing once a week. If they bring him north as a backup, that's essentially giving up on him being a full time player.

Martin is 35 this year - if Jansen looks like he can play, it's probably time to start the transition with something close to a timeshare. We don't need Martin in there 6 days a week. 3-4 starts a week each would keep Martin fresh and be sufficient PT for Jansen.

plus getting Jansen time under Martin's mentorship can only be a good thing. Perfect situation really with an older vet who is very secure in his starting role, but not long term (so he isn't helping the guy who will 'take' his job)

If the success rate on bringing up young arms "early" is 50%, then AA was a genius that was onto something. We can only hope that one out of every two arms coming up in the Jays' system has a career like Osuna's with the other flaming out.

That's one thing I liked about AA and this team in general. They don't game the system and delay prospects. When they are ready, they are ready. We can expect Vlad and Bo up when the team deems they are ready but the good thing is the team also has enough quality MIF depth where there will be no need to rush them either.

As far as Jansen is concerned, if he earns a spot, he needs to be here.
